I was the same way, i was either out in the woods, playing sports in the summer during the day but in the winter or at night I mostly just gamed and read books. Goldeneye for endless hours with my buddies on N64.

I am nursing a torn rotary cuff, cannot even pull back the string on my bow currently.

My buddy is out at our hunting land now sighting in his new lever action 45/70, and getting lanes cut in. Hopefully my shoulder will be healed enough for shotgun and black powder this year. Freezer is empty.

I didn’t mess with video games that much as a kid, lots of time outdoors but once I saw gran turisimo on PlayStation I got hooked. In my early twenties I played those games all the time, had a huge collection of cars in my garage in the first game. Those 500 lap races were a mother fucker, especially when you didn’t place first. A couple meltdowns over lost races and time was a clear sign that I needed to find something else to do with my time. So I learned how to flyfish and the rest is history. Still have all of my memory cards and games, some day I’ll set up everything and see if I still got it

Black powder just opened up yesterday, here in New Hampshire. I do bow hunt as well but it’s been unseasonably warm this fall and didn’t bother. Yesterday was a bust, first half of the day I came across two horseback riders and two dog walkers within the first hour of being out. I was okay with the horses, but the dogwalkers were off trail and making so much noise that I literally just went back to the truck and went home. I was about a mile into the woods when I ran across the idiots with dogs.
Spent the afternoon sitting in my treestand, listening to the world’s biggest squirrel . At least I didn’t see any people in the afternoon. I’ll probably go out in a little while and just put some miles on the boots. Just gotta find somewhere where people aren’t going to be walking their dogs. Not much common sense with people these days, too much sense of entitlement and lack of respect for others. As a kid we were always told to stay out of the woods in the fall because you could get shot accidentally by someone with buck fever. That was always enough of a deterrent for me, not sure why others have an issue with it. Plenty of land with trails that aren’t open to hunting for people.
