So I just moved my plants into a greenhouse but still farming in a grow tent. I’ve never seen this happen to my plants stems before but it looks like something is stripping away layers! My plants look fine but could be doing better. Not sure what is going on. Please help!! What could be doing this and what should I do?!

😥 I didn’t even think about rodents before I decided to move everything outside of my residence and into my greenhouse. Ugh! I had no idea they would do this.

Is there any recommendation on what to do with the stems to prevent further issues? 😰

here's an article you can have a look:

i didn't find much about gnawed stem recovery with google

That’s alright. Thanks so much for your response! I needed to identify the issue first and then figure out solutions. I for sure think it’s mice, we have our greenhouse on a farm property and we have tonnes of field mice / rats around. Quite a nuisance!

guess same as with snails. 2 wires when both are touched at the same time opens the flow of electritiy and boom dead....

You could try one of those sonic emitters. My bro in law lives next to a farm, the mice ate all the plastic (corn plastic) from the wires in his car. He runs a chord in through the window and has a couple of these running all night, every night. Says it works. Maybe a couple near the weed plants would keep them away. Traps are no solution, there's an infinite number of mice on farms.

Had this happen at a campground with tiny chipmunks eating wires under the hoods. Folks told us to leave the hoods up. Little did we know.

Put wire around it
For snails use a copper ring they won’t cross it
Might be rabbits but they usually eat more.
Never had mice but I had a pet rat that liked weed lol
It will recover left alone

It's not the same situation, but to keep racoons from eating apples off my trees, I surrounded the trunk with sheet metal. It's too smooth for them to crawl up it. Problem solved.

Our cats love weed. I can't leave the tents open if I want to keep my plants.

If they are gnawed all the way around, I would be surprised if they survived! We used to lose a fair number of plants to rodents back in the day out in the bushes! If that even is rodent damage! Probably is! Good luck! Just two cents from Mr. negative! Maybe wrap foil around the stalks ! Hopefully you can let us know the outcome!
