I transplanted at about 2 1/2 weeks. They are about 3 wks now. I have them in 1 gallon pots that i watered heavily while moving them to their new home. I got really good drainage out the bottom. I’m checking the soil regularly about an inch down. 1 of them is drying topside a little faster than the others, but the soil is still moist at the bottom. At next watering, should I saturate again since i have such good drainage? Or water from the bottom and shoot for the “wicking” effect?

You’re right. My bad. I’m new. Sorry bout the same pics. I’m still learning.

Plant looks healthy 👍. I don’t think that will last in that wet soil tho ✌️

Your soil looks compacted and drenched . I suggest more perlite . ✌️

Hold on,,,,,, That is a 3 week old plant? 3 weeks from starting to pop seed, three weeks old from breaking soil? What am I missing here?

This is a 7 day old plant from breaking soil. And about average.
Day7

Same plant at 21 days old. Struggled to get enough nitrogen to this plant but it kept it's grow on.
21 days

Something is not right.

Hash Plant14 days from breaking rockwool & it was stunted 😉👍

How are your seedlings doing?

Yes. It drains really good. The plant in the pic is actually 2 weeks old. I have 4 more that are 3 weeks old, but they aren’t much bigger. Although they do have their 4th set of true leaves. I’ll try to send more pics later today. I overwatered them and they turned a lime green color, and just quit growing. I just flushed it after transplant. And yes, the soil is still very moist. But they definitely got stunted.

The plants are looking healthy again, they’re just behind the eight ball. Will send more pics today.

These 2 OG Kush just popped 3 days ago. And doing much better than the 1st 2 attempts.

Is there a formula for pot size and how much to water? I know there are a lot of variables, but a 3 week old plant should get how much water, and how often? It’s in a 1 gallon pot. Just trying to figure out what to do. I’ve already screwed up and overwatered 4 others that are really stunted.

I'm brand new at growing, but seem to have a handle on watering thus far. I've researched a ton before starting.
From germination. I soak my seeds in a jar of RO(reverse osmosis) water for 24 hrs. Then I put them in a very wet, but not dripping wet paper towel folded 3 or 4 times. And into a ziplock bag. I set the ziplock bag on a seedling heat mat set to 78°f. And cover it to create darkness.
When the seeds pop and taproots emerge, I start my plants in a 2 gallon fabric pot. I loosely fill the 2 gallon pots with FF happy frog soil about 1" from full. Then I water each pot with 1000ml or 1 Liter of RO water. If you're using tap water. I would adjust the ph to 5.8.
Then I set the previous watered pots in my tent for a few hours to let the soil and pots gets warm. (Because i grow in my basement where it's 60°).
Once the pots are warmed up a little. I carefully dig a hole about 1/4"- 3/8" deep with the back side of tweezers. I carefully pick up the seeds with the tweezers and set them gently into the hole then lightly cover the seeds.. just enough to ensure the light won't directly dry them out.
After another 24 hrs. I will visually monitor the moisture levels on the surface and give it a very light mist with a pump sprayer to endure the taproot and seed doesn't dry up.
The first watering I do is when I stick my pinky finger in about 1/2" and don't feel any moisture. I am doing about 250-300 ml when they are seedlings. The first time I planted i didn't properly pre water my pots so I hit em with 500ml to ammend the moisture down deeper.
-I don't like the idea of transplanting multiple times because the risk of shocking or stunting the plant becomes high.
-the amount of soil you've got in the solo cups looks insufficient to me.
- the plants roots will be trying to grow as deep under ground as the plant is tall. (Just picture the plant upside down under the soil and the root structure will look something like that)
-if you're using fox farm soil or most other pre-ammended soil, which it looks to be because of the wood chips I see. You have enough nutrients for 30 days in there. Just try not to drown them.
I read something the other day someone here wrote that said "let the soil dry up, I like to let my roots search for the water". It won't hurt anything to encourage more root growth.. is what I got out of that and it helped me relax a bit when it came to worrying about watering.
I'm brand new. Hopefully I didn't offend you with my insight. Feel free to checkout my journal to see what I've got going on. Hope it helps man. Happy growing ✌️

No, not at all offended. Thanks for the info. I just try to remember that we all need to help each other. My photos are finally starting to grow again after transplant from solo to 1 gallon. Have 2 OG Kush about 6 days old that are doing great so far. Will be transplanting them as well in a couple weeks.

My seedlings always start slowly. Starting plants is the most troubling part of my growing, and I've tried every bit of advice I can find. So, until if figure out what I'm doing wrong, I just nurture them until they get going. They almost always grow well after they're established, though. The next time I start seeds, I'm going to try RQS soil plugs. I buy most of my seeds from RQS, so I figure their plugs should work well with their seeds. I used an AC Infinity propagator the last time I started seeds and all of them sprouted. Good soil plugs should make a difference.

@Burite60 - Your plants should grow well. The plants become more robust as they mature. A slow start for photoperiods isn't a problem. It just means the plant will need more time. Just keep growing and solve problems as they arise and look forward to a happy harvest.

I also buy from RQS. So far so good. They will also make good on any bad seeds you buy from them. I make my own starter mix with moss, perlite, and verticulite. I’m out of perlite, and really need to add some to my latest batch. Wet paper towel and then Burpee seed starting trays. It finally comes to you after a while. Just keep on trying. Live and learn! Happy growing!!
