Had a late night visitor last night. Couldn't find the outdoor bug and animal thread so figured I'd post it here, because who doesn't love the good ole American opossum

Yeah we have plenty of coons also but they are more camera shy. The possums and coons can't get in my trash cans but 2 or 3 times a year a bear will come around and spread trash everywhere. About a month ago a bear grabbed a trash bag out of the cans and walked into the woods with it dropping pieces of trash along the way. Left a trail about 150 yards till he settled down to eat the roast beef trimmings that were in the bag. Hell of a mess but I like having bears around. Just seems natural, they were here long before us.I've got a bunch of them things out where I live, between them and the trash pandas (raccoons) you can't keep the garbage in the cans! I finally had to buy a bungie device to keep the trash can lid locked down. BTW, if you're growing outdoors, don't use molasses or fish emulsion fertilizers, the smell will attract them and they'll dig up the soil around your plants!! (ask me how I know)
IMO you really need to secure that stuff! That kind of behavior can lead to their early demise! if you live in Bear country, itโs incumbent on you to protect them from themselves! pretty much the rule for all wildlife!Yeah we have plenty of coons also but they are more camera shy. The saying up in the mountains is "A fed bear is a dead bear".IMO you really need to secure that stuff! That kind of behavior can lead to their early demise! if you live in Bear country, itโs incumbent on you to protect them from themselves! pretty much the rule for all wildlife!![]()
