Hello, quest to grow with no inputs

Coffee grounds decaf by the way.Dont want my girls jacked up on caffeine.In there dancing a jig after lights out LOL.

Lol. Not sure if that matters, decaf/ caffeine. I would make a compost been, add grounds to that. You can essentially make a worm farm which will stop soil from compacting :)

Sure, a small amount of grounds go into my compost. I'm a huge fan of worms and have several absolute studs in my 2 pots--- their 1st winter. I'm hoping they have survived--- and we are getting more snow tomorrow. I've insulated these pots with leaves and some straw. It's been above 40 for the most part but I'm looking at 19 tonight into tomorrow morning. Keep your fjnghies

Hmmm not sure how that would work with the grounds being organic material. They are deff. Beneficial tho. They are essentially biomass that compost/ decompos which feeds the bacteria in turn producing nutes for the goals:) also fyi, check out the fermentation used by some Korean farmers it's very interesting

Yes I have a spot out by garage I started dumping all my grounds so I guess that is gonna be my dirt pile .but it would al be put in buckets so does it matter that it hardly gets any sun.
And I don't suppose it matters in what order you start dumping bags of stuff to mix up this dirt.and can I continue dumping and mixing .that could be a problem .I can tell . Stop right there.
I need more info.on this dirt.

How about used riced coffee grounds would make more acidic ,but doesn't seem to hurt them

If you’re talking about a Small volume of soil you might have to be careful with them! But if you have a good size, compost pile, hell yes, throw them in!

So compost bin oughta be, but ca literally be anything, 3'x 3'x 3'. I use 3 palets with a netting front. This allows oxygen to reach in to the pile. Then I layer greens and browns having brown on top, some people cover theirs I leave mi e open. Last year I turned it 3 or 4 times. It composted so efficiently it went from 4' to 18"- 24". It is very enriched and breeds mo sterling worms around 10"- 12" for the big boys!

I use this to add worms to pots/ soil as well as 4-6" on top over winter the as mulch during grow. My hope and intent is to chop and drop companions afyer harvest and the same for covers. Afyer a couple years I should have a soil that needs nothing that is in a package. I will harvest seeds from both cover and companion so all annuals will begin to be closed loop!

There is alot of information out there and because the industry is quickly going to shit in its infancy just research natural soil building, it's a good rabbit hole. I'd start with Elaine ingham, she's kinda turning to selling stuff but it's a great start. In my mind I'm feeding soil not plants. Another one would be Gabe brown.

Ohbyes, I'm building soil, it's 2 years old now and has had roots in it for quite awhile! However no inputs do not build soil that way. If I do have to mechanically build soil it's equal parts clay silt and sand. I appreciate your input, I just want 100% natural with no inputs.

OK, Great question! Soil begins with 3 ingredients the largest is sand, then silt, then the smallest is clay. You can test your soil for this by filling a glass container, with a lid, 2/3 full of your soil fill the remaining with water and shake it up really good--- really good! Set it down and leave it for a few days. When the water is clear measure each layer. The bottom layer is sand, as sand is the largest it is also the heaviest so it will settle to the bottom as the 1st layer, next layer will be silt. It will settle directly on the sand. Then the smallest and lightest will be clay. Should be perfectly clear layers. This is the basis of all soil.

Now you'll need to get the life in there by adding biomass, quickest natural way to do this is compost. Compost speeds up the process. Once you have compost mixed in Or at least top dressed 2"- 3". All that's left is to put roots in the ground.


If you use companion plants as well as cover plants your soil can have living roots 365 days a year. Chop and drop all plants less the fruit/ flower adding any and all noots you need. In my assertion.

I've looked deeper into covers and covers have been grossly simplified.

Co er do not immediately add significant life, it could take a year for them to actually add nutes. So the term soil building has a different meaning for me now. I i.tend to keep the two pots I have and plant covers afyer harvest in october/ November. This will begin to build the nutes in the soil, covers coupled with my own mix of companions. I will continue to do this and continue to cultivate bruce banner for several years. I will documet everything here. I also have a small (3'x 8') bed that will be the same experiment that will also allow me to experiment with my existing clay soil, in nva.


All of this is to utilize the results on 160 acre virtually untouched by man since the mid 1800's when it was a mine. Please follow along, I'm so excited!

Im on my second season (starting april), I want to grow all natural with only inputs bright water. I'm not dumb so please, I do not need any bragarts hating.
I intend to utilize a companion crop medely and my own closed.loop compost as mulch.
Id love to get authentic thoughts, not prayers. Starting with Bruce Banner and a separate guerrilla grow with green crack. Variety doesn't really matter and that's what I'm doing.

Thoughts, advice (especially if no inputs intrigues you or you've done this grow), and or questions are welcome.

Im in 7a so 21ish weeks.

I've sowed 2 Bruce banner seeds green into pea, vetch, oat and clover. I will sow 2 more into rich soil with no companions--- other then the companions they are the same: worms, biomass, mulch etcetera. I will also be planting a gurrilla grown. please stay tuned I'm excited

OH!!!! My also my worms!!!! Went foraging for worms a couple years ago and happened across a couple real fookin studs, so I put em in my pots and over the past couple years I've been lucky enough to find a few more 12 inchers!!! They are all breeding year round now for 2 years!

I make liquid fertilizer out of the coffee grounds instead of mixing it into the soil so it's more readily available for them
