Hey all, somewhat of new grower here. I am on my 5th attempt to grow top notch bud with minimal expense and effort. I get better each time but I am still nowhere near the quality that i am looking for.

Personally i'm not picky and i will smoke anything but my friends have high tolerances and they consider mine dirt weed compared to the stuff they smoke.

Sour Diesel in photo. I am using a 4x4 tent with two SF 1000'S and a SF 2000, fox farm soil and nutes, AC infinity intake fan, i let the slight pressure exhaust the air on its own, H02 spore bag, topping, and training with a trellis net, 10 gallon fabric pots, seeds from ilgm. Little to no humidity or temperature control.

What can I do differently or improve upon to get that bag appeal look and smell to my buds? I was looking through the 'frostiest nugs' board on here and even most of those don't look anywhere near as frosty as the dispensory weed. So whats the secret?

Hahaha I was just using that as an example (I don't care what they think that much)

Really i'm curious what the exact reasons are for my bud not looking anywhere near show quality. Experience I believe you when you say that but I don't think thats the only reason.

This isn't meant as any form of insult. I started in guerilla grows and most of my first few runs were salvaged gear or DIY specials, which takes a decent amount of effort to do right an dial in. You save on cost though. On the other side, I've worked in places with high-end equipment and everything was basically automated. Very low effort but very expensive.

You can get good results with minimal effort and cost, as you've seen. But to get high quality, you'll end up having to invest in it. The ability to dial in an exact temp and humidity, and then hold it there. An RO system, cannabis-specific nutrient formulas fed at exactly controlled amounts. CO2. It's all the little things that add up to big differences

Also, SD is just a bit finicky to grow. Definitely not bad results for a first run at her!

1st thing, start a grow journal. Even if you haven't started yet
Put down what you have, what you think you need, your goals etc...... you will get a plethora of sage advise. Then new growers can watch your progression and learn as well.

Looks like a decent smoke to me also some people are bud snobs

Thank you that gives me a better idea of what to look into next to upgrade my grow. It seems I still have ALOT to learn about...and invest in. Haha!

Most of that black magic is in the drying and curing process. Probably the best results are using a dedicated drying space with temperature, humidity and airflow controls, and then proper curing in jars with regulated air exchange, but since most of us screw that up, next best thing would be grove bags that don't have to be burped.

This black magic you speak of is something I was wondering about. I noticed that my final product is brittle, dry, and pointy while the top notch stuff seems more hydrated and soft. I feel like this is a major part of my problem. My buds always look way better before harvest than they do after I finish trimming, drying, and curing.

I have a bunch of jars put away but have not used them since I found the grove bags lol.

It sounds like I need alot more of a controlled environment throughout this whole process but it does not seem like it will be easy for me to do.

Yes i want insane trichs and a finish product that reflects the crazy amount of time I spent growing it. I'm gathering from the replies that its a combination of every little detail being dialed in precisely which means that if i want a better product Im gonna have to learn and do alot more in every aspect of my grow.

I’ve told a few others on here… a $20 Temu light meter does wonders.

Being able to check PPFD at canopy level is super helpful.

Oh it's not easy for many of us, lol. At least without a dedicated drying space with climate controls. Grove bags are supposed to be better than jars for curing but I've only done jar curing and results are primo if you put the work in and burp them right and keep them cool and dark.

Also for after the cure, You'll get good shelf life if you vacuum seal the jars. They sell the sealing kits online for about $10.

Environment. Environment. Environment. If your light is strong enough and they are getting proper nutrients environment is the most important thing. Get your temps and humidity under control and you'll grow top shelf buds
