Brutal!GNick55 Popped a few Kumaoni beans indoors in the spring last year! Got one to take! It rapidly outgrew his indoor room! So he moved it outside! Thinking he was going to have a walk in the park! It kept growing and growing, and like the warrior he is, he did what it took to take care of it! It wouldn’t sex, but kept growing and growing! Along about mid-September, it finally threw balls at him when it was about 17 feet tall! We were all heartbroken But not really surprised! Oh, it was an epic grow! Never seen anything like it! And let no one Ever question GNick’s resolve to get a plant to the finish line! He went way above and beyond! That crazy bastard is one tough old buzzard! This was in Ontario! He knew it would never finish, but kept after it, at least, till it sexed! And if it would’ve been female, he would’ve kept after it until either he or she froze to death!

Thanks for the feedback.Haha no worries.
I would consider these autoflowering for all standard purposes. They will flower with 18 hours of light. Caught me off guard and I had to move them to a new space
Now technically speaking they are “day neutral” which means they will flower based on maturity. Which happens to be about 4-5 weeks after germination. This is due to the proximity to the equator where sudan gets 12 hours of sunlight year round with very little variation (I have an ex who is Sudanese actually).
After they began flowering I had them on an 11/13 schedule just to make sure.
I popped 4 and had 1 male and 3 females. Fairly uniform christmas tree shapes, I didn’t top any of them. One had more hair/ less bud growth. But all foxtail sativa like stricture with mango/ citrus terps. Not a terrible smoke, but nothing close to modern strength.
I actually germinated 9 of the sudanese but had to go out of town when they had just popped the their heads up and ended up overwatering half of themGNick55 Popped a few Kumaoni beans indoors in the spring last year! Good thing you got her out! Hopefully any relatives also! This Sudan is probably one of the biggest hell holes on this planet! And has been for quite a while! Thanks for the feedback.
3 out of 4 females is great!
My veg room is currently 20/4, maybe that will make a difference?
There’s not a whole lot of information about this particular strain, some have said they couldn’t stop the flowering and others have said anything over 18 hours of light will keep them in veg.
If they flower in veg and I can’t stop it, I will let them finish but that will be the end of the plant. I need something I can take clones from.
My best guess is that it will vary from seed to seed, but I will definitely find out soon enough.
I don’t expect any of the land races to compare to today’s poly hybrids because they’ve just been bred for high THC content over everything else. I’ve grown so many lanky OG crosses etc. that wouldn’t survive in the wild because they just can’t hold their own weight and collapse into the dirt during flower. I just use it as an example of a trade-off for really high THC content. Other trade-offs are less obvious until we get better at identifying, measuring and understanding all the cannabinoids.
There’s growing support for the idea that some of the more medicinal cannabinoids have been lost or at least severely reduced in the poly hybrids in the quest for high THC and high yielding strains.
Natural resistance and defences against insects is something else we may have been trading off.
That said, I still run poly hybrids. I’m currently running some polys from seed, some polys from clone(a permanent marker that I can’t imagine giving up
), some autos (polys), a Durban poison reeking of lemon cleaner and now these Sudanese. My garden welcomes all except hermies
Finally, I chose Sudanese because like your ex, my wife is Sudanese, so it’s a little tribute to her.![]()
I did a couple things differently with these. If you’re still there, did you do anything special to germinate those seeds? Or just germinate them like the modern seeds?
Lucky man, Sudanese people are really beautiful. Hopefully the war ends soon and any family there are safe. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks for your kind words, we did manage to get all her immediate family out in time.Lucky man, Sudanese people are really beautiful. Hopefully the war ends soon and any family there are safe.
Yeah it is an interesting strain/ environment. Most other places that close to the equator are much more tropical like south america or south india. Even ethiopia and kenya are slightly greener.
I was sad about not getting clones but i did pollinate one of the females with the male so i have a good stock. Curious to see what breeding with some photos/ polys will do. I also have a Permanet marker x grandi candi (Candi Chrome from Lit farms) that i love, probably one of the best plants i’ve grown so far.
Cheers excited to see how your grow turns out![]()
Thanks, and point taken, they are pretty early still.Good job! Look nice and healthy! And I think it’s a little early to make any judgments! May not sativa – up till they get a little older. Give them a month or two! In my limited experience, there isn’t a whole lot of variation in seedlings. So far so good brother! Still waiting with fingers crossed to see if my beans make it through the postal gauntlet!![]()
Here for the organic fun! Looks like you’re off to a great start! I loved running the Gaia with promix and my other amendments. Always got great results only changed it up recently but won’t be ditching any of my mix notes anytime soon!As the title says, I’m going to do my best to document a grow of Sudanese, if any of the 12 regular seeds germinate.
This is my first grow journal ever, so please excuse any oversight or mistakes and feel free to point them out. Also, please feel welcome to follow and add your own experiences growing landrace strains from anywhere around the world, indoor or out.
I won’t be updating every day as there will be very little change from one day to the next, but I will update over some regular interval, maybe once a week.
I have many years of experience with indoor and out, photos and autos, feminized and regular. That said, this is my first time attempting a landrace, so hopefully all my experience will help me through what may be a difficult grow. The parts I have trouble with, I’m hoping to find support from some other experienced growers.
The plants don’t have a super long flowering time but they are classified as semiauto by some. This is a misnomer, as the plants are photo periods with no Ruderallis genes whatsoever but they can flip to flower with less than 18 hours of light, approximately.
Hopefully they don’t grow too tall, although I’m in an open room and not in a tent I still have 7 foot ceilings to contend with.
I am following germination techniques as directed by Angus over at The Real Seed Company. The seeds were soaked for a few hours in hydrogen peroxide and then dropped into my seedling soil mix, hopefully it’s not too hot for them. As the soil dries out I will be watering, but I’m hoping to see some sprouts before I need to water again.
As far as pots , I plan to upsize anything that grows in the solo cups into 5 gallon bags. Apparently there’s a danger of triggering flowering due to being root bound, so I will need to keep an eye on the solo cups.
As far as soil, I’m starting with a mix of pro mix HP, earthworm castings, Gaia Green all purpose 4-4-4, Gaia Green glacial rock dust, and some additional perlite to fluff up the mixture.
When going into flower, I will be using a similar mix but I will add Gaia Green power bloom 2-8-4.
These are all organic dry amendment ingredients, I will only be adding tap water if all goes well. I may have to top dress, but that remains to be seen. I will not be dechlorinating the water or pH anything.
As far as lighting, I will start with fluorescent tubes, t10 or 12, I forget which but they are “daylight” bulbs rated in the range of 6500 K.
Flowering may be under LED or HPS, depending which has space available at the time.
As far as pics, I don’t have much to offer yet except the seeds soaking and then the solo cups with seeds in them and ready to go.![]()
