Just thinking ahead of the game as I am going through my outdoor journal from last year. I had a great grow from April til October but noticed she didn’t begin flowering. I think it may have been due to my street light keeping her in veg, so everyday for 2 months I’d move them to the side of my house (which gets complete darkness). I’m thinking of building a frame and just putting up a tarp so they can get complete darkness with some airflow. Around what month should I begin this process. Here in Virginia, November can be mild but temps typically drop close to Turkey day. Any insights or suggestions?

So here in NYC my outdoor plants would start to flower the end of August when there was about 13 hrs daylight. We would usually harvest sometime right after Halloween in early November. Look up the sunrise and sunset times in your area but VA and NY will be really close so by Labor day is a good time.

Definitely good to know when flowering is triggered in your area. Here in So Cal it's around the first week of August. So you can manage expectations, and also to know when you're going to start needing supplemental light if you want to keep them in veg.

All good recs for sure. In Ohio so much depends on local conditions that a large percentage of outdoor that do well are lost to pm and bugs. 13 hours and down is the universally accepted flowering trigger.
I also read a lot on photo triggers and it seems no one can just come out and say
x ppfd or lux will cause reveg or stop flowering or whatnot. Lots of arguments on this.

The full moon is between 0.1 and 0.05 lux. A typical yard flood light is anywhere from 5 to 30 lux.

So the artificial light is usually 50 to 600 times greater than the full moon, when to our eyes it can seem just as bright. So even if you get a reading of 1 lux at night next to your plants, that's still 10 to 20 times greater than moonlight.

Cannabis is so sensitive to light it uses nyctinasty to droop it's leaves at night to avoid even the most miniscule amount of light. So if light is hitting it from the side like you would have with ground based lights in the distance, this adaptation is totally ineffective.
