hello everyone. Today I added worm castings and two containers of red worms to my soil. Anyone ever had success with them before? My seedling is growing fast so I’m preparing for transplanting soon maybe after the next few wet/dry cycles any advice? Also how recommended is a product like Great White for benefiting during transplant? I’m nervous because my first time growing I killed my plant with bad soil choices and transplanting. Anything helps. Thanks!!

Worms rock! If your going that route you need to focus on feeding the worms and biology in the soil organics and steer away from synthetic inputs. I don't use anything during transplant, they may get shocked for a bit but its pretty difficult to kill a plant during. With my bonsai's I treat the roots like they owe me money and yet to lose a cannabis plant to blasting, trimming, and scraping the root ball.

Ok cool. So my family has been fishing since the first fish 😂 and if I remember correctly my grandfather used to feed his worm grits! Like just right out of the box and they loved it any suggestions?

True worms will eat p much anything haha, There's a lot of ppl going with the "no-till" or "living soil" style here. Here's a website that has formed bc of this movement, they are a pretty great company (BuildASoil).

long story short, we start with clean organic soil/amendments, grow a cover crop like clovers to provide a suitable environment for the biology to thrive in, chop the cover crop to feed the worms and return nutes tot he soil. dry amendments once in a while and GTG!

Thank you so much I will buy some clover seeds the next time I go to Walmart! I watch so many videos and read so much about growing that sometimes I overthink too much. I appreciate your advice.

Absolutely, TONS of overlapping and outdated info on the web. If you have time check out @Mikedin 's recent thread he just finished his first round with a new living soil setup from buildasoil and it went great!

Very nice! Yes great white myco is great! Dust your root ball with it before you plop her in the hole (I even used to mix a small amount in during watering just mix it in the can and water in every 2 weeks or so

Worms are awesome I started with 150 red wigglers and 100 European nightcrawlers from Uncle Jim’s worm farm. Split them between 3x 30 gallon bags running all build a soil living soil and amendments.

I can tell they have been breeding heavily through the run, small baby worms on the top layer under the rice hulls when I pulled them back, red wigglers prefer the top zone of soil, while nightcrawlers prefer lower soil zones they’ll be the ones first eatin g and breaking down amendments, the night crawlers will come up to that top 1/4 and take those half eaten nutrients and eat them and deposit them lower in the zone, nature man!

i just did a full top dress (I saw you checked out my living soil topic)

It’s a different style of growing for sure, but very fun and rewarding! Had a great harvest plants were strong and holding on till chop day even though I pushed them 2 weeks longer than I normally world

Man I could only fantasize about growing a plant like yours!! And I added about 60 of them to a dog toy bin that I decided was the perfect fabric pot! Sorry to the family dog lol and my soul is just basically stuff from my yard where everything seems to flourish except for the perlite. I will buy the Great White it’s actually pretty cheap and seems to be a go to for a lot of people during transplant.

Yep! I don’t use a lot just a nice light sprinkle over the roots before ya put her in, transplant is easy, don’t overdo it, sometimes when I transplant I don’t even water for a day of the soil is moist that in transplanting into (especially in the living soil beds you maintain moisture when you’re running or not)

Lots of animals in my house they end up in my pics a lot haha

Here was a breakdown, one video is me adding the first set of worms, 2nd video is me transplanting into one of the 30 gals

Sorry for the massive pic drop 🤣

Wow that’s so awesome man great job 👏 so I guess my next two purchases will be some clover seeds and maybe some straw or could I use the hay out of my yard? And no worries with the pictures I love all plants and animals lol I also have a question about foliar feeding every now and then since plants naturally collect dew and rain. Is this something to consider or am I getting too off track from the basics
