So after getting two consecutive batches of seeds that had a poor germination rate I opted to spend some money on Compound Genetics Luxar Dos. I germinated 2 of the 7 seeds and they are growing great!

My question is are they worth it....is there are real difference between these seeds vs $80 seeds from Blimburn Seeds or others

Cheers

I grow $80 packs of 13 seeds and they germinate reliably. I'm sure there are expensive seeds that aren't reliable. It's not just a price thing.

I think it depends on how you define value. Germination rate? Parentage/ancestry? Genetic stability? Genetic instability? Specific attributes of the flowers? Growth attributes? Breeder reputation? For example, would you rather have a pack that germinates 100% and grows into undifferentiated OK bud, or a pack that germinates 50% and gives you wild variations, some of which are rare or at least interesting?

Reputable sellers usually are reputable for good reasons. I was having a terrible time with germination rates for a while and was struggling to figure out what I was doing wrong. I still don't know. I've grown cannabis off and on since the 1960s, so it's not like I haven't had some experience germinating seeds. I even grew up on a farm. So, my failure rate was frustrating and perplexing. Eventually, I decided to abandon paper towels, etc., and try an entirely different method. I bought a humidity dome and started using soil plugs from RQS, which is also where I buy most of my seeds. Since then, my sprout rate has been 100%.

I have some $2 seeds that are πŸ”₯
Those seeds are a gamble. Ive grown fire weed from seeds that cost 1,80 euros which would be more or less the same but the pheno consistency and the germination rate are not there. You can get lucky or unlucky. And even if its fire weed most of the times wont be as productive as good seeds.

Look at it this way; you spend years perfecting a strain, only hunting phenotypes that are fire. Now you have to mantain the quality even if you got there, you still gotta check that the phenos you want are predominant and every badge is consistent. Now you have to store them in a cool chamber so they dont become retarded or lose germination rate. There is NO WAY youre gonna sell your seeds at 2 dollars if you have to do all that.

I should clarify. With sales, coupons and the freebies the seeds i purchased and received averaged about $2-3 a seed.
I could see sought-after cuts going for an expensive price.
I have seen so many people buy expensive seeds only to not be able to germinate or keep alive. Then they quit.

Plently of places to go without getting robbed for seeds.

I just wait for promos too but 2 dollars per seed? Barney's farm has 2x1 many times then the seeds cost around 5 euros each which I find a very reasonable price and other banks have similar promos every few months. Also plenty of people in the US selling bullshit seeds for stupid prices thats why you gotta go for reputable banks like it has been said, we dont have that problem in Spain thankfully. When I was using instagram for a while, plenty of scammers approached me to sell me "high quality" seeds and they were from the US, or so they said, the prices were also listed in US dollars. Not once did I get approached by scammers in spanish despite the fact that my insta was in both english and spanish.

You mean like Thug Pug? Some of those prices are insane. I don't care how good the weed is or how rare or how whatever you want to say about it ... I'm not paying $100 per seed.

Yes, I know not everything Thug Pug sells is that expensive, but some of it is. I find that my packs from Anesia Seeds, or Blimburn, or Barney's Farm suit me just fine. I usually pay $10 or less per seed. If they are more than $10 per seed, I'll wait for a special or a promo.

I pay less for clones from a good supplier in the Valley than it costs to buy low end seeds. They source from Purple City Genetics and some of their own in-house.

i have never spent more than 8€/$ per seeds.

i usually try to place my order when spring sales and black friday happen and if i place an order in between i'll try to catch some weekly or daily sales many breeder are doing.

my last order from Nirvana: 20 seeds 50€/$ with a BOGO offer that's 2,50 €/$ a seeds instead of 5€/$

due to genetic randomness of the offspring from seeds i personnally don't believe at all that pricey seeds are so much better than cheaper seeds from renowed and long established breeders.

So i just posted another thread on this grow. this is why I initially asked this question.

the middle plant was germinated and planted 1-2 weeks prior to the others that were sprouted and planted June 1st.

The middle plant Sour Kush (cheaper seeds)
The outer two were by Compound Genetics (177$ CAD)

Just to note the middle plant is not from Blimburn. I forget the name of the breeder of these. All of them were bought from gta seedbank of whom I am pretty happy with after my absolute brutal experience with Crop King Seeds

So the only way to sum it up is what my grandfather used to explain to me, buy the middle priced item; it will not be too expensive you would be upset at having to replace it and its not too cheap that you expect it to fail.

Truly it comes down to purchasing from reliable breeders via direct sales or reliable seed banks. Breeders like Archive offer packs that typically start around $150 and will get up to $300 for a 10 pack of seeds, but he is a top notch breeder with some of the most sought after varieties. Or you have a breeder like Bodhi who is intent on keeping his gear inexpensive, of late I feel like $80 packs are his norm, but there is definitely quality in there. Then there are the guys who are either hacks who sell whatever random seeds under whatever name they think will sell and those are usually pretty cheap, like $50 a 10 pack, or there are the scammers who sell garbage at a high price and disappear (though they typically pop up with a new identity) never to be heard from again, laughing all the way to the bank. So the price of a seed is pretty much irrelevant if we are talking about quality. Each breeder will set their own price and it is up to the grower to determine if they got value for their money. And to be completely fair, even the best breeders with sure bet packs have runty plants show up every now and then, just the nature of seeds.

When all is said and done stick to breeders the while community finds reliable. The prices will vary, but you will be more likely to have good experiences that way. And typically the breeders that have been around a long time have proven their reliability, or at the very least they offer great customer service.

It all depends on whose strain hype you buy into. Long time ago you got your seeds from the bag you bought. During the Columbian Era, we got damn good seeded weed. You could sow them in the morning and they would pop by late afternoon, full sun.

Today's overbreeding has diluted original cannabis genetics. Explore genealogy before falling for the hype. IMO lightly breed strains are best. Still, the grower plays a big part in the cultivation.
