If you’re needing wire for support, I think small opening mesh wire is a nightmare. Virtually impossible to inspect (loupe) leaves, thread branches, check soil, and frustrating to trim within the cage. Obviously if it’s for critter control you may have to use it. But check out remesh sheets (at any big box store) with the 6” openings - a little more expensive, but easy to size and they make nice drying racks.
My normal runs are with 3” scrog nets (hand made)
I hang and dry whole plants preferably right in the scrogs still. Like how Frostette is
For the mesh I plan to let her for a bit then remove that lower mesh, I plan to put 4 legs around her then put the mesh up higher for her to grow through, this is the first season that I’ve had one out here (in the ground, I’ve worked this soil in the garden for near 4 years organically now) , I ran one in the mini greenhouse last year lol
But it take a a bit to weave them out of the mesh but makes for a frustration free grow, the extra 15 minutes I spend unweaving them really is worth it to not have to deal with those floppy colas lol
But I know it’s preference plus volume of plants you’re running, if I was running a large volume I’d run a similar method but long horizontal ropes, tied outside the scrogged zone, pot for each tie off, (1’ openings or less if preferred, then when harvest comes untie one end slide dope through, do for each one and done, it’ll take time and prep to set up the posts and ropes (I can already think of options vs multiple posts), think single post multiple tie offs horlontally, basically top of a clothesline outside perimeter of the area
Can even double height em, built out of steel, PVC, wood… lots of of options
But it’s garden time!
Finished off the first 300 tomato clips for the vertical trellis, grabbed the new bag lol, these plants are EXPLODING in this heat, already grew 9” in a week since I clipped them last, big defol was done the other day in the indeterminates. Near a wheelbarrow full of foliage was removed, just off those 3 rows, then the Row of various varieties of cherry tomatoes are filling out now, got them 50% full in each zone almost so it’s time to start training vertical next
Sweet lunchbox peppers are showing they are about to double in size, once I see them do that I’ll remove the new flower sets that have already reformed since last stripped, imma make these plants some MONSTERS
4 varieties of Romas are going insane never had such clean growth this fast I really amended the soil in fall, and again at planting I think it’s paying off for the xtra bit of time!
Added 1’ height markers to show indeterminates the a height and growth rate
Dobby the guard dog is on high alert for chipmunks and squirrels
The plants on the porch look great after their heavy FPF watering yeaterday, (also gave the same mount tot he plant in the ground in the garden for her watering
