I'm doing a little science project with one of my plants, and curious if anyone has done this before.

The plant was a bit stretchy before going into the ground. So just before putting in, I striped a bit of the lower foliage and buried it deeper into the soil, then mounded the soil around it, close to the next node/branch. As I've top dressed over the season, I've increased the size of the mounds with soil/dirt, covering the lowest two limbs, near the stalk, in hopes that roots will emerge from the stems. In essence, making them two separate plants, from the main plant, or at least possibly be able to take up more nutrients in the lower limbs, that typically get lolli popped by most. Just trying to get the most out of it.

So far, those two limbs are out doing the next two above them.

So what's your thoughs

I’ve considered something along those lines to try. Only difference was going to lst and just bent a tall girl over. Over a period of days then bury 2/3 of the way up. Sacrifice whatever nodes are there for more roots.

That being said I use root stimulators and sea-k with some water soluble pk. I’ve been getting ridiculous root volume and count. I do bury to the second node when they get tall enough though. Roots always showing on the top of soil when I water after I top off my pots with more potting mix.
This year photos have had much thicker stems all around and the growth has been noticeably faster.
I would imagine they will produce nicer flowers this time by the health and vigor.

Still the same plant! Yeah, I’ve seen people keep burying parts to reroute! Specially, when their shit gets stepped on! Lol! Good luck with it! Sounds fun to play with!

It works in air layering/cloning soo it will work for you

Here's what im looking at, so far.
Notice how small the next branch up is, compared to the bottom branch.
And how full that bottom branch is in comparison to the other.

Video didn't take, so pics it is.

I have a volunteer that got stepped on by something! So about a foot of the stalk was laying flat on the ground! The roots were still buried so I threw some dirt to cover the stalk and kept watering! The little tassel of a canopy turned up and is now about 2 feet tall! But I haven’t looked under the dirt to see if the stalk rooted! Might very well have! I call it my cobra! A survivor! It’s now growing out from underneath a much larger volunteer that dwarfs it! Cobra on the right has gotten bigger than I thought! But it started life laying flat on the ground! The stalk might have rooted! And what it look like when I covered the flattened stalk

I'm same way.... don't want to dig in to find out if it's actually rooting as suspected. We'll find out come harvest, though.
Patience...young Jedi.
