So my laws have changed, and I'm more limited with my grows. I've always done more plants per light than the norm. What amount of veg would be appropriate for 4-6 plants per light/4x4 square feet? My lights are 720-watt LEDs in a good controlled environment. I'm trying to break even as close as I can to 4 crops per year. All my strains finish well in 8 weeks, so I'd also like an opinion on soil size of pots. I usually used 3 gallons, but that's not an option anymore. Any help would be awesome. 🙏

What types of strains were you growing before? What type of growing medium? If you are maxing out at 6 plants does that include flowering plants and vegging plants? Lots of variables and unknowns to give a good answer.

Im growing soil with red wigglers and top dressing I'm aloud 117 plants now my question is more what would be a good ratio of plants per veg time if I go with 4 plants if have to veg 8-12 weeks to pull a good crop or 6 weeks I know strains are variable I'm just trying get an estimate

4 crops per year means harvesting every 13 weeks. Subtracting 8 weeks for flowering leaves 5 weeks for vegetation unless you have separate vegetation and flowering tents.

Vegging 8 to 12 weeks means 16 to 20 weeks total growing time when including 8 weeks for flowering. That's 2 or 3 crops per year.

AS @MartyMcFly42oh mentioned, we need to know more about your growing practices. Do you veg and flower in separate tents?

Yes I do my grows from start to finish in the same tents but I time them differently so they are perpetual

Do they come to your house and check ??????

I also said 6 weeks veg is possibility trying to maximize best results with smaller plant count with longer veg

Perpetual or not, the amount of time per tent doesn't change. Staggered grows are nice when it comes to trimming, though.

Okay. So... 6 weeks of vegetation plus 8 weeks of flower is 14 weeks. Four grows would be 56 weeks and that won't get you 4 grows in the same tent within a year. 4 grows in 52 weeks is a maximum of 13 weeks per crop per tent.

My thinking is you'd be better off with separate vegetation and flowering tents if you have room for the tents. I usually don't do it that way because I don't need that much weed and I tend to screw up the timing. So, it'd be better for someone who does veg and flower separately to advise you about that.

I don’t know maybe run four 15 gallon fabric livingsoil pots, transplant them from one gallon to the fifteen gallons after they’ve vegged about four weeks in a separate tent. Always have the lights 12/12 in the 4x4 and rotate new plants in every eight weeks or stagger it out so every week you’re chopping one down and transplanting another. You would need a smaller veg tent, but you could get a perpetual grow going.

For sure but comes down to the same if you have multiple tents and they are just in different cycles so ever month or so u have a crop

U would flip right after u transplant ? I was thinking more to have multiple tents times differently so every month or so I have a crop also would it make a big difference if I did 15 gallon compared to 25 gallon I know there's no point if your roots don't fill in the space but if they do quickly if you do a 8 week veg what are your thoughts on that

I was guessing you only had 1. Knowing how many tents you're using would help do the math.

`While at the moment Im not growing, and when I do, its only 1 x 1000w Hortilux HPS, in a 4 x 4 area, and 1-6 plants, depending on strain(s). Ive got, and have helped with more grows than I can remember, since 1977 and most of the time we had 2 separate rooms for seedlings/clones, mothers, and flowering plants.

I start seedlings by soaking them in RO/Distilled Water, until I see signs of life, and then, put the seed, pointed end down, in either an 18oz Solo Cup, a 32oz Uline Deli Container, or 36oz, Solo Cup. I really like the larger containers, vs 18oz. 36oz Solo Cups are the cheapest way to go, and get large container size.
I makes a small, very shallow hole in the mid of cup, with a tooth pick, and push the seed down, only far enough, that when misted, there is still enough soil, on the TOP, of the seed, to keep it moist, and keep it buried.
I then get Saran Wrap piece large enough to cover the cup. Spray the underside, to help adhere to the cup. Place on cup, and spray top of Saran Wrap, to help hold it down.
All seedlings are started under either a 1000w Hortilux Blue/MMS 6000k Halide, or a 1000w Hortilux HPS. Halide at 20 inches, and HPS, at 24 inches, and let plants/seedlings grow into the intensity of the light.
I like temps at 82f, and have a small breeze/box fan blowing between the bulb, and top of cups, from day one.
I keep constant watch, and only mist at this point.
When big enough, I transplant into 5 gallons, and I would get plants however size I wanted, and then, one week before I flowered them, I up pot to 17-20 gallon Tote-Promix BX, I would take cuttings, and then, place the plants in flowering after observing for a week, that they are happy, healthy, and using water, in their new containers, all the while, the cuttings are rooting.
At this rate, and a 63 days flowering plant, this would give roughly 50--53 days to veg, if they root in 10 days
After that, one can harvest every 9 weeks, if the system works correctly.

Another thing one can do, is select plants that have a Big Stretch, as this WILL greatly Reduce Veg Time, or allow fewer plants to get larger, and nopt lose yield, if you choose a strain that is also a good producer, like
ACE Killer A5 Haze
-Oldsog-Destroyer
Oldsog Athens Silver Haze-S1
Seedheads-Fem-Destroyer
Empyrean Seeds
Original NL5 Clone x Destroyer= The Light
ACE Golden Tiger x A5Haze
All of these require less veg time, but longer flowering. Which can equal out, if timed/grown correctly.

But for a 63 day strain, thats 5.7 Harvests per year, if one is spot on, every time, but, considering most every grow is a bit different challenge ect, harvest times can vary by a few days, either way.

Yeah the smart thing to do would let them veg longer in 15 then flip.

They want to put a 6 plant limit, fine.. I'll just do 6 Durban trees, lol! How bout doubling and tripling up your pots? Seriously officer, that's just one plant, those are just branches! Or my favorite... You know officer, technically I have just ONE plant that had pieces fall off and grow roots and to prove it go ahead and test the DNA!

(Laughing and also glancing one sus eye at my own garden because I'm probably just a plant or 20 over my limit right now)
