Day 24 of flowering AK48, under VIVOSUN aero light 200w and just added the phlizon 100w on the left for the lower branches 2 days ago that I just didn’t have the heart to chop. The lower buddies under the 100w have developed amazingly since I put this light in the past two days. Average ppfd all around 900. Any tips would be helpful being that this is my first grow in 5 years and first time ever doing DWC.

Looking pretty damn good! 😍 How long of a veg period before you flipped? I'm also curious, what are the plastic hangers used for?

Your light is slightly too hot nothing major but it’s gonna be. I would turn it down 5 to 10%. the very tips of the edges of your leaves that are turned up like that that’s the beginning of your leaves trying to hide themselves from the light and making its surface area less. Cannabis leaves will do these things in order to try and lessen the amount of surface area available to a light that has killer penetration as it is and some strains are a little bit more sensitive than others in this regard but it’s a very, very little tiny little Q, but it’s telling you a lot
Otherwise, very nice looking.

I wouldn’t focus too much on PPFD bro. My whole thing is is it’s a metric that isn’t really a true science because every strain is a little bit different. It’s not like it’s out of the box cookie cutter approach for every plant or strain cultivar under the sun, they all have their own little electricities when it comes to light tolerance and nutrition tolerance and vice versa so it’s just one of those things that in my opinion it’s better to train your eye towards these little tiny precursor that you See And adjust accordingly from there as opposed to relying on a kind of arbitrary metric that doesn’t seriously fit every plant

50 days exactly from sprout! My tent is 2’ wide, the hangers push the tent walls out about 2-3 more inches on each side to keep from pushing up against her as much as possible!

I totally agree. My grow light recommendation is 100% at the stage she is at right now at 12” I’m only at 75% right now. I had it up to 90 for one day and it was very obvious that she was not tolerating that at all

Thank you brotha, I’m at 80% right now gonna tune it down to 75%

I love that number actually bro because I never finish any of my runs above 75%. They usually end right around 70 these lights we use nowadays they’re pretty goddamn powerful so you’re close to being super dialed in man. Welcome back to the fold bro.
Looks to me like you got many killer harvest in your future I’m also running Dwc for the first time myself in part of my grow
I’m a fan honestly I’m a soil head for life but these Hydro buckets really do crank man beautiful work👊🏻🤡

But yeah man, I keep all of my lights anywhere from 25 to 30 inches above canopy at all times for veg and flower both
And I have yet to finish a run above 75% output on any of my gear so like I was saying man super fucking close bro

Hell yeah man love the set up! I was reluctant to do hydro bc I had a lot of experience in soil but Im loving every minute of it, makes me feel in way more control of every aspect of the plant and seemingly way easier to fix any sort of root/ph/nute issue immediately. Unfortunately my light to tent height is maxed out lol literally had to rig my straps to get it as high as possible. Gotta do whatchu gotta do for your babies tho lol

Thems the facts
So I haven’t seen you around yet so I’m gonna go ahead and say hey man, welcome to the farm and shit👊🏻

Appreciate bro I made an account when I first started this grow and the community here really helped me out with figuring out all things DWC
I’m finding that since I have solid fundamentals and growing in soil 25 years that a lot of what’s going on with the DWC rig is basically just common sense though I haven’t used the damn pH wand in fucking years let alone in EC meter but that aside I don’t mind it that much because the nutrients that I run, they generally don’t need me to go ahead and get too heavy handed with ph’ng at all I’ve just been making sure that I keep my bucket real nice and cool so the water doesn’t get too warm and I’m just sure to go ahead and dose my buckets with a little bit of Hydro guard once a week or so and it seems like it’s a steady as she goes type of situation you know what I mean I can’t see myself not running them at the end of the day. they’re nice change of pace from a super easy soil grow. Got to say man if you grow this well for the first time in DWC I’d love to see some of your soil work at some point in time if you ever get back into that neck of the woods.

I’ll keep you updated for sure. I was worried about my water temps for a while and i was using the frozen water bottle methods but at this point there’s absolutely no room in the buckets for that due to the root mass. I just try to keep her topped off as much as possible and doubled up on my airstones. I use orca and silica boost but will discontinue the silica around the last 2-3 weeks before harvest and the roots seem just fine. My next grow I’m going to put my air pumps outside of the tent so they will be pumping in colder air in the lung room rather than the air in the tent. Also planning on using the Home Depot 17g tote which with my net pot will require 9gallons of water vs the 3.5 gallons I use in this 5 gallon bucket. Really thinking it will give the roots much more space and regulate my ph a lot better and the biggest thing is not having to worry about having to top off my res every damn day lol

Sounds like the exact progression I made from my first DWC to where I am at now. I highly recommend turning your setup into a recirculating DWC. You can even use your 5 gallon bucket as the external reservoir. I use basically the same setup: 17gal tote with 5gal external reservoir. Connected with 1/2" tubing, but I need to upgrade to 1" tubing for the return since my pump empties my 5gal bucket forcing me to cycle the pump on and off. Anyways, with the external reservoir it is much easier to test your PH and EC. You can also continue to use frozen water bottles (I do the same, hehe).

love this!! That’s exactly what I wanted to do to a tee was just unsure if I could use the 5 gallon as an external for the 17g ! Thank you lol

Man, I just read your one comment about putting your pump outside of the tent to get the cooler air. That shit is hitting me like a ton of bricks right now like dDUUUUR
Sometimes Occams razor will drop kick you in the head now and then man it’s just the most obvious and simple answer is the correct one, thanks for the simple but rad nuanced idea.
