Growing outdoors from seed in high desert Southern New Mexico

I don’t know if it was beginners luck or what. All I did was rigged an irrigation out of some pvc and got a small Orbits timer. Set it on 30 minutes every thre days and them bumped it to two when it started getting into the night 90s and 100s.

We’re at 3900 and some feet. We do get snow but seldom a lot. Here is the 4 pounder. This was a few weeks before I began cutting and hanging. It was so big the Google Earth car came by and captured it on street view. Hahahaha! Glad it’s legal. Ok
Wow man that's huge! 4 lbs .. I'm so amazed at the size of outdoor weed!
This was your 2nd yr to grow?
Beautiful tree bush. I love seeing everyone's plants🌿
Mine are so squaty!! Lol. Love the learnin' as ya grow with this plant💚
Hahaha g. earth ... Everytime I get a delivery, I get mailed a pic of my screen door.ugh I'm missing privacy. but - Yes, SO Very thankful to be legal!
We didn't get any rain or wind a few days ago.
Thanks for sharing your pics!

Good God man that girl is huge! Good job. What did you feed her?
I need to get hubby to set one up in my tomatoes bed. I think I'm gonna put 3🌿in that bed next year. Haha Thank you for sharing with me.
Well it seems like the PVC idea is working for you so.. Sometimes we actually come up with brilliant ideas :-) 👍 LoL
I bought clover seed to scatter in my raised beds this winter. Hopefully it won't need tiling in hahaha

Just a little Tomatoe food was all. Not much. I had put fireplace ashes, coffee grounds, banana peels throughout the winter. Just regular watering.

Wigbob that's what I do for my tomatoe bed also. 🍅 Kewl! Thanks!
I put a couple of sardines at the bottom off the hole with some soil on top before I plant my tomatoes. I've been wondering if that might be a good idea next year for my weed 🤔

Do you ever get wilt disease on your tomato plants? I have discovered that weed is also susceptible and lost a whole crop to that malady.

Not so far. Gosh that would suuuuuck!!
What I thought was wilt disease on 1 of the god father's straightened up after 2 days. I watered it slow & was glad she stood back up. I'm noticing tho... Different problems this year that I've not experienced before in my gardens. Earlier than normal pests eating seedlings. Smh ..

I just did that, yesterday!
4-6 inches of potting soil, half a bag of worm castings.
The old pots were 5 gallons, new are 10. I stripped off the 5s along with some roots. (my bad)
Didn't have enough potting soil to bury the roots, so I just set them on top.
We'll see if it helps.

The ones in the middle look the best to me

Heck ya!!! I tried to talk to hubby about my honey do's .. He was like wth 👀 haha. He don't wanna be trying to drill holes in the bottoms of my pots hahaha While the pots have pot in them. ;-)

I can't wait to see what happens in 2 wks for ya!
I bet this will make a big difference! Whoot!!!
Haha well I really screwed it up today! I hooked into my irrigation system for these two plants because we'll be doing some traveling. I got the stuff I needed and got it all set up.
I tested it and it looked pretty good but then I forgot to be there observing when my normal garden watering zone cycle ran and it flooded the big planter! Apparently it doesn't have any drainage! I used a cup and then a towel getting some of the water out but it's real soggy.

I tossed a bit more soil in there and have a fan blowing on it so I'll check in the morning and see how it's going.

Ahhh man... We can be our worst enemy at times! Geeze maybe lay it on it's side.?. Or get the shop vac and suck that puppy dry. Lol. but sheesh.. Maybe drill some holes on the sides at the bottom? Gosh and right before your leaving... If I was close I'd help ya out ;-)

All good ideas, I'm still toying with the idea of drilling some holes. I had some really dried out soil in a different planter and filled that big pot right on up thinking maybe that will help absorb some of the excess moisture and of course, I toned those mini sprinkler heads way down! Perhaps I should switch to dribblers, thinking about it.

I guess I gotta figure, the more I screw up the more I learn! 😂

I used a piece of 1/2" PVC and rebar to dig several aeration holes around that sucker, with this weather we're having it should help dry it out a bit. This trip tomorrow is only a long weekend off to Tahoe but at the beginning of September it'll be back to the midwest and I may be gone as long as two weeks so I hope to get this figured out.

On the bright side, the OG Kush in the bucket has really taken off, getting taller, mostly green and filling out a bit.

Good to see them doing great! 💚 I'm jealous over your Kush!! Lol. Mine is looking better but gonna feed it even less next time.
I'm cheering you on from the unpredictable South! We're in a valley so we never know what's gonna happen, lol
You'll figure it out!!!
The 1 tomatoe cage I had, dowel sticks & bricks saved mine yesterday lol
I hope you have a great trip!!!!

As long as we learn from our mistakes Right? LoL We work towards the end goal :-)

I’ve had damn Squash bugs lay eggs on some leaves and a few little caterpillars. Haven’t had much issues luckily. I think regular water is the key. It’s weird, I’ve tried several seed strains given to me but the environment seems to make them turn out the same.
