does anyone know about landraces?

Just did a quick Google and thai XXL doesn’t seem to be a formally recognized cannabis strain! So depending on where you got it, it could be a pure Thai Landrace or a thai dominant hybrid. The land race you might have a tough time finishing! There are a lot of Thai varieties out there! Thai gets crossed often to try and make its flower finish within a reasonable time! And it’s structure really isn’t conducive to indoor growing!

yeah I bought from seedtiva all the strains they own they made im pretty sure, not a very known website but they specialize in they're landrace strains. And I'm growing outside

You will need to check with the breeder for expected flowering times. Some of these landrace strains flower for way to long to really pop outside in most of the USA. I have seen 10 to 20 weeks so the particular strain expectations should be verified and the calendar checked to make sure your harvest date is not Dec20 or some other not realistic point of the year.

Well on the website I can't find anything on the flowering time, I hope it isn't 20 weeks 🥲

Yeah, a five month flower cycle usually doesn’t end well in ole Kintuck!😁 the land race team offers Thai in 30 different flavors!

Doesn’t go into much specific detail! I would guess it’s been tampered with to make it more palatable for someone growing in the US! I don’t care for land race that has been tampered with by modern man!

Well let me tell you. You are not going to get a 20 foot fuggin plant in 12 weeks of veg and flower. That's going to be a slow walk in the park.
They do recommend partial shade in flower to finish it in October.
Shoot every time I reduce flower light on a tent it extends it not shortens it
20 foot plant. 6 more feet than local corn.

Typically a landrace will just carry the name of the area where it’s from, so adding a moniker like xxl tells me that it’s probably a hybrid and isn’t a true to definition landrace. As others have mentioned the breeder should have information about flowering time, climate and plant structure. And yes most sativa or thin leaf varieties that are true landrace are going to require a prolonged flowering period. Also true landrace varieties are going to do better with an organic growing medium that may or may not be rich in minerals. It’s all dependent on how the local environment and farming practices used to produce the seeds were. I guess it helps to understand where the plant came from and what conditions it evolved from. But this is an overthought approach maybe?

im not really worried about flowering really because I'm gonna use these landraces to breed, but I wonder if the long flowering time will go into the offspring

Umm I am wondering the reason for breeding an unknown unspecified outcome plant. Most breeders are hunting for something. How do you even know if the presentations that you wind up with would even be worth breeding?
If this is just an exercise to see if you can breed I understand but to think you can make your own seeds that people want ( including you ) it just does not work that way. Also if you are planning a natural pollination event remember that cannabis pollen can travel very far on the wind and you risk screwing everyone with a feminized plant downwind for a couple of miles

yeah it's more of a project to dip my toes into breeding. I have a lemon cherry gelato that turned out to be a male so I was thinking now could be a good time to start. But I live in Kentucky I'm pretty sure I'm the only one growing in my town

Depending on what part of KY there may be hemp farmers also.
Good luck. I am glad to see KY has at least got a medical pot program.

Are you growing the lemon cherry gelato for taste or effect? I haven’t tried that particular strain but I would guess it’s probably a 7-8 finisher, which when bred with a longer finisher might split the difference?? But then again a flowering male might not have the same length of flower time than a female. These are all interesting things to consider. Makes me want to take a biology class to try and understand more about breeding plants and how recessive and dominant traits work.

And don’t confuse pollen chucking with breeding! Breeding is a lot more complicated! Anybody can pollinate a bud! But good luck with it!

you have to try lemon cherry gelato man, I'm growing it for both taste and effect. The taste and smell of it is so good, and the high gives u a uplifting wanna talk to everyone type effect. Definitely my favorite strain
