When I have big pop can buds I break them down and dry them in the baskets with the big fan and dehuey going. I’ve lost quite a bit hanging branches to boytritis over the years. I’ve learned the hard way
I am debating this myself, but have never done it. I would be worried it would dry too fast and I would have hay smelling buds. Do you just cut the big colas into quarters or how do you do it?

I will admit I am a bit concerned and I would hate to lose premium bud to mold. I made the mistake of watering my plant the day before I chopped it and when I feel the large buds you can tell there is alot of moisture in them. Really squishy. Not sure if I should break them down or not.

Are you able to keep a close to 60/60 environment for the first couple weeks, if so I wouldn’t worry at all about the smell or flavor. If you cant though, those popcorn buds i think, like youre worried about would dry out quicker. Ill let Rooke answer more of your tag to him : ) as long as it doesnt sit too long from here on out, id be making a move sooner than later✌️

So far the drying space has been 54 humidity and about 72F during the day. Have the dehumidifier set at 50 for the garage it's in. I am wondering If maybe I should keep the large colas intact for a week and then break them down to avoid the hay smell. I feel like if I break up the large colas today and put them a dry rack they will dry out to quick and not break down the compounds they need to.

Hey there Bear. I think the side mesh on my hanging baskets and bottoms keep the fan breeze in check. Cut the buds off the stem do a wet trim on them then I open them then I check for any rot then into the baskets they go. If you find they’re drying to fast the the next time you fill them up more. Or turn your dehuey up. It takes a few days to dry hope this helps

Is there any risk of the hay smell if I break them down and put them in a vertical dry rack? Every other place I have seen for drying advice they say the mesh racks dry out too fast and give you lack lustre weed.

Did it get cold there last night?
Has been all week. Upper 40s Tonite, but probably low 50s
I've been in long pants and a hoodie.

Need those low 80s back., only hitting in the mid 70s. for highs.
But at least it's been sunny with a breeze. 100% humidity, this morning.
Plants looked like they'd been dipped in the lake.

Hey there the buds on my autos were very big and I’ve tried hanging branches in the past and really had problems with them drying I lost whole plants that way,. Then another farmer told me about breaking the buds Up off the stem and checking them for rot that you may not see..

Front went through last night, humidity dropped. Have to worry about hurricanes and nor’ easters now. It’s damp mornings every day till harvest time.
No hurricanes where I am but damp in the morning for sure I do wake and bake the plants get wake and shake
Might have to start blowing them off with leaf blower 🫶🏻🪴
