I hate seeing it. Almost all of the tradesmen I run into are pushing 50-70 years old, not a lot of younger people getting into it. Most are also busier than they want to be because of the lack of help, and other options. I have been preaching about this to my girlfriend and her son for years now, telling him he doesn’t need four years of college and a mountain of debt after high school, he needs to learn a trade and he’ll be set up for life. She hates that and wants him to go to college. I have about four more years to work on that, could be the difference between a 40 year old dependent living with us draining us financially vs a young man going out into the world and making his own path.Ran my own for last several decades. Still doing a bit when able. I agreed to a toilet install for Tuesday. I'm still in a lot of pain but the $'s too good to pass on. Haven't worked in a bit and won't get ss for another month at least and our rental is not paying rent and we're shelling out $$ on eviction. Could be worse, could be raining![]()
@Captspaulding this guys got some old seeds he’s trying to germinate, 94-95 era skunk. I figured if you got those beans from 1986 to pop maybe you could offer some guidance.Hey guys, new here, help please, back in the day I played NES Mario Bros for months before a mate blasted through the ceiling and blew my mind, I see the obvious and the obscure with the in-between hit and miss, and this extends to forums as well. I assure you that I am sane. I think I believe I have a couple of Skunk seeds from 1994/5. I need opinion and advice on my next move, limiting factors to overcome. The backstory will ease the majority of doubt. Could someone shunt me to where this topic would gain the most traction please, be that here or elsewhere, I've searched, but, Mario, thanks.
Hey, if'n ya got any extras of the clever pills,I would need to pop a few clever pills before understanding this, and that's after I googled it, but no doubt, thanks
Oh it’s already been discussed, I plan on fixing this place up and selling it, and I don’t want any surprises from a home inspector or to pass on a problem to the next owner.Go buy that pan and have them put it under the heater. If you can afford it have them run a PVC line or if you think you can do it then just have them put it under the heater. PVC is measure clip and glue, easy.
Thanks, but to clarify, due to circumstance I can't pop these precious beans. It's a one shot deal. I fear intersection via authority, plus I'm a relative noob with germination failures under my belt, plus IF they are Skunk and I did grow to flower then I have no experience with securing the genetics via pollination or sts etc. I successfully clone all the time, but I can't share those with the world, hmm.@Captspaulding this guys got some old seeds he’s trying to germinate, 94-95 era skunk. Actual from that year seeds? Well, I'll burn some incense for ya but beyond that... I think Cap's 8o's genes are a pure line from that year not actually 1986 seeds. Fuck It! here goes. In my small mind there is good pot, really good pot, and there's Skunk. I know a little about anatomy, growing etc but due to exposure and experiences I know a lot more about the end product. Here in Oz, back in 1994, a guy brought us some pot, it was immediately different, the nugs were fingernail size, dense, damp, sticky and stinky, and with hindsight no visible signs of glistening trichomes. The effects were different to any other of the hundreds strains I'd sampled, then to now, mind blowing. Then we had it again. Then a year later and 100milesd away I had it again, all the same characteristics, and then never to be seen again. The first batch I found, 2,3,? seeds and as I've always kept bag seed, stored them correctly and placed a sticker on the individual bags with an aggregate score from 1 to 10 comprising smell, taste and effect. In 1996 a mate asked for seed, I said I have Skunk, he grew one outdoor plant (I never saw) and when harvested and ready to try it shared all these awesome characteristics but toned and tamed down no doubt due to the unknown male pollinator. I should embarrassingly add that each time I tried this pot I threw up, and this was the case with the mixed gene outdoor plant. Over the years my labels have become smudged etc though always stored correctly. I have never seen pot like this before or since. When I first was handed it from a guy from SA (your Humbolt I guess) he spoke the name Skunk. I'm an idiot, yes, but this pot was different to everything else I've ever seen, small, incredible dense, brown to black, maybe some green and purple hues (memory) and it stunk and its' effects were both more powerful and longer lasting. My dream is to get these 30 odd jumbled seeds into the hands of the experienced so they can freely sow, examine, flower, ditch the ditch weed, select the Skunk, and produce seeds. I say all this but I in no way can guarantee that amongst this 30 odd selection IS the crossbred Skunk I speak of. I don't want to pass without passing this on. I could wait, then feed a seed at a time into my four pot setup but that's time, plus the possible interception of authority, plus my capabilities, plus zero experience with securing genetics. I have scoured the net for years looking for what I believe to be Skunk but it all seems to be just very good pot, perhaps I'm very wrong on that. Any opinion or advice is very much welcomed.Actual from that year seeds? Well, I'll burn some incense for ya but beyond that... I like where your heads at. There’s definitely tricks and gimmicks, I ran a 3-4 week post a while back about an unsuccessful brick weed seed stash re vitalization project last spring, I was unsuccessful. I bought some seed germination kit and tested it out. It worked fine for newer stuff, but the real old brick weed seed wouldn’t germinate. I tried it twice with scarification the second time and still got 0/24 to pop. Thanks, but to clarify, due to circumstance I can't pop these precious beans. It's a one shot deal. 0 from 24, damn. Thanks for the germination advice, those methods new to me. A few years ago I chose a seed from this group at random and even with my then limited knowledge was able to pop it, and I watched Pilly on YT pop some 1971 beans, so hopes are high. I store mine in zip lock bags, then in an airtight container with a desiccant bag and then in the fridges crisper. I don't think I can do this due to the outlined concerns. I am searching for someone who can assure me that they can even though I cannot assure them that the seed I speak of is held, bit shitty, I'll see.I like where your heads at. But there’s the winter theory of storing in freezer for a few weeks prior to germination
Also the hydrogen peroxide and water soak
I use to keep all my seeds in the freezer, then had to remove them from freezer. Ever since I’ve noticed decline in the germination rate of those seeds. The new seeds I get go into the freezer and they have much higher germination rates.
Hopefully someone can offer you the best advice possible for this situation because I would love to see you achieve success in your endeavors![]()
Probably better to send him to trade school than indoctrination school.I hate seeing it. Oh man, I was just reading his comments and you saying that he scared, but the thing is is like bro the longer that you keep them and a couple that with what you’re saying is your inexperience and germination failure rate you’re gonna wanna pop them sooner than later, bro I mean, granted you might be the next Jack Herer and pick everything up super fucking fast and everything, but that being said those seeds, dude how have you been keeping them? Have you been keeping them proper? Have they been getting tossed around just sliding around in a drawer or have they been in a refrigerator?a bag and a jar ? What kind of temp and humidity have they been kicking it in you know these are all crucial things and the fact of the matter is is we can’t take any of this shit with us when we die you know and I hold onto these things for years 1986 and I popped them for the first time in 2024 and you know they got kicked around lost found again They were in drawers getting beat the fuck up, but if you’re really wanting to go ahead and get a healthy germination on them get you an old matchbook and an old matchbox and you take the Flint side off of the matchbook and the sides off of the matchbox and fix them to the inside of the box Throw your seeds in there shake them gently. This is a technique that scuffs the shell and makes it more pliable and willing to accept oxidation then get yourself some water in a little shot glass do about 25% peroxide 76% r/o water preferably. Toss them in the glass. Now the moment that you start to see any of these shells, just barely split Open Take them out of the water and plant them immediately give them a decent amount of sprays with a handheld spray bottle and make sure that there’s about a quarter size wet spot right over top of where the seed was planted until you see it breakthrough.@Captspaulding this guys got some old seeds he’s trying to germinate, 94-95 era skunk. Thanks for the info. I have stored them in individual ziplock bags in an airtight container with a desiccant pack and then in the crisper, sounded good to be at the time. I use HP for all my seeds, ta. I have an ACI propagation tent with S11 lights and a heat mat, constant success. Yes, as I posted I don't wanna croak it and then they're tossed out. I think, think, I'll add another grow pot alongside my 4 autopots and grow these seeds one by one taking clones (experienced at) before flip, then at harvest or before I'll know by scent alone if that particular plant is the one I'm after, that said, I have now begun to search the world for someone who can freely sow them all, who also knows how to distinguish great pot from extraordinary pot and do what's necessary to secure the genetics. And the matchbox trick makes perfect sense, thanks for all.Oh man, I was just reading his comments and you saying that he scared, but the thing is is like bro the longer that you keep them and a couple that with what you’re saying is your inexperience and germination failure rate you’re gonna wanna pop them sooner than later, bro I mean, granted you might be the next Jack Herer and pick everything up super fucking fast and everything, but that being said those seeds, dude how have you been keeping them? Under your lights set at least 26-30inches above the soil/cocoa line at no more than 20% output.
Just wanting to keep that soil a little warm.
You really gotta ensure a incubation on those ancient opening seeds
Bob’s your fucking Uncle
Forgot the germination pics.
It’s the hash
But I be ratin them germs tough
