Re veg from Tapo Wi-Fi camera IR

So recently I noticed my week 6 flower GHS Haze #3 started to reveg which broke my heart cause that pheno was going gang busters.. What I found was my Tap C210 (V1.0) wi-fi camera in the room was putting out PAR reactive red instead of its advertised 850nm IR. So this is more a PSA to help anyone searching for any info regarding re veg in flower. I actually have 2 cameras in there, a Wyze V4 camera which is fantastic and the Tapo. What I found was the image was pink on camera when the IR was on. I'm guessing they're using 750nm LEDs instead. There aren't any settings to even turn IR on or off so the camera went in the bin.
Hopefully I can salvage the plant. The strange part is, there are 3 other plants next to this one that didn't react at all...
 
Three things:

1. If the camera was in the tent with the light on the whole time the plants are not going to be normal for six weeks than all of a sudden re veg.

2. "Guessing" on things like this will just give you confirmation bias.

3. You have three other plants telling you the camera is not the problem.

As a business owner I feel obligated to remind people to do their homework before they make public claims about a product. You could really be hurting someone's livelihood when you're just trying to do the right thing and help fellow growers.

Call the company and find out how many nm that light is. If it's throwing par light your wyze cam should be able to pick that up too I use the same one. 💚

I used a par meter. I'm also a business owner... In home automation and CCTV.
The give away is the pink light. IR should never be coloured in a stream.

also I did say it's "advertised 850nm" from it's spec sheet

On the Tapo it looked normal but the wyze was picking up the pink, pretty sure it has a much better sensor. Yeah one of the re veg branches was right next to it. The weird part is, that branch isn't showing re veg symptoms but it's branches further away are. I don't remember what reading it was but I'll check it again out of the room today. All the automation gear is out of the room so there's zero chance of light leaks from anything else. I'm frustrated at myself I didnt think harder about the pink image before the issue. I had just put it down to the the cameras stream not working properly. I had the Tapo only in there cause I could use it's RTSP stream through my automation system so I could watch it live and control everything in one place.

What does it look like through the wyze cam?

I don't think a single diode could do that but if there's a ring of them around the lens I'd be curious to see what it reads. I don't think phone cameras can typically "detect" IR in order to use the Photone app but if you point your camera at an IR light it will look purple even when you don't see it with your naked eye. If you ever want to check the batteries on your TV remote you can press the power button with your camera on and you'll see it glow purple.

I've read that it takes a minimum of 5 umols of light energy for cannabis to react to light. The moon is something like 1 umol during a full moon which is why it doesn't trigger reveg. I use my shed for dark period during the day. I've closed the door and stood in there to check it and it definitely leaks at the seams of the door as well as a seam under the roof overhang but its still dark enough to trigger a plant to flower. If that Haze leans heavy into its Sativa genetics it could be extra photosensitive.

Haha yeah, my job is actually AV, automation security and networking/wi-fi so I'm a big nerd with most of this stuff. I've been testing if remotes work with the phone camera trick for a good while.. my 2 grow rooms are completely automated including dosing via a home automation system I've used for 20 years called RTI. Using modbus sensors everywhere and water level sensors I literally only need to open my app to check levels. I even have everything running off a 12v system that has battery back up, including small LEDs in case power goes out it wouldn't go dark when it's lights on time. I think that's what made me a bit complacent. I've read that par meters only test to 700nm and there's conflicting information about if plants can still trigger with anything above that but it's happened so just have to hope correcting it will let the buds finish. The 3 other plants are stacking and swelling hard where this plant is just thousands of pistils still so I'm just hoping they start to swell before they finish. Thanks for the help man

they use 750’s? I run wyze cam V3’s and they use 850’s and 940’s (can chose between near and far IR settings to swap between them)

But mine never come out of my tents I let the plants grow right up to em sometimes but I usually run em in time laspe when I’m actually usin them

Was the plant the one the camera was pointing directly at and the closest? And were you recording 24/7 or time lapse?

That's what we're trying to work out. The wyze cameras are fine. I have the 3 and 4 and no issues there. They're running time-lapse in one room and just a different angle in the other. The tapo says it's 850nm on its spec sheet but it's showing that it's much below that. I'm just testing it again with the PAR Meter now

Ok it's registering 4 on the meter. It has 4 IR leds. it shouldn't be enough.. but it is.. there's not a single other led in the room... All electronics are external. The grow room is under the house so it's dark out of the room and it's winter here in Oz so the sun goes down before the lights turn off anyway. The plot thickens

Ahh the pink yeah, honestly i probably woulda not noticed right away either, brain thinking "Infared picture" so probably diddnt even question it


i just got home smoked a fat one and sat at the computer, still reading and answering as i read, please disregard my self induced ignorance haha
 
Two phenos from the same seeds but very different.. right next to each other. You can see the green shoots coming from the buds and no swelling anywhere on the effected plant

To restart negative growth or photosynthesis needs a certain par level otherwise the moon would play havoc with our outdoor flowering times.

Your plant looks foxtailed to hell, it's not revegging it's stressed.

I'm unaware of what fox tailing is sorry? The only stress I could see it would have was growing too close to the light? I didn't think much of it cause it wasn't bleaching the leaves but I haven't had plants this close to the lights before. It would actually make sense cause it's really only the two branches that got close that are showing the signs. Very interesting that this is it's response then. Will it recover once they're pulled down? The plant is growing without any other stress indicators which is why I never thought it could be stress! Thanks mate! If this is determined to be accurate, I'll try change the thread subject to reflect.

Just had a look through posts related to fox tailing, you're absolutely right! Very grateful, is it too late for it to stop getting worse? Will the buds thicken up once the stress has been removed? Also would this stress mean it will add flowering time before they're finished?

Maybe probably not, I think the point is it's not really vegging.

Plants have twice the number of chromosomes that animals have. Different phenotypes can emerge from one genotype.

I would agree with the majority of them but if you zoom in on this one, it's got green foliage popping out. Thoughts?
