I've presented a lengthy case to AI and we now agree not only on light roughing hulls and peroxide soak, but that darkness is the issue #1 with vermiculite/perlite. It's not as dark as soil, but I'm also over sprout cups I think. AI says it's because my brain hates the lack of cool factor, even if I could find a more effective way that isn't the reason lol. MY go-to is the hollow tube ones, our river trout see that flash and they're predators, but also it has that popping bubbly sound for cloudy waters. The color effects underwater are like a hologram.
He also does similar "fish pipes". Good dude I should direct him here.

we have an old technique which does the same break a bic pen in half take the clear hollow bit and thread and tie a swivel and clipped hook so the hook hangs neatly out the thicker end of the clear tubey thing. Then troll or cast a retrieve swiftly to create a bubbling lure that likes like a whitebait(small native glass clear fish that all our predators eat.
I didnt even mention the Trout and Salmon fishery here. Thats just one braided canal system in the south island. Id also check out monster brown trout ruver fishing in in Murupara or Galatea, BIG rainbows in Taupo and Tongariro etc. The fishing here is nothing short of EPIC!
