After a couple of decades I finally made the leap. I had always wanted to attempt this, and fate stepped in. A friend of a few years surprised me by offering me some of his genetics. I had no inkling at all he cultivated, and had been doing so for multiple decades.

I accepted this gift and coaching and am off to attempting my first run. I am attempting a Coco/Perlite Fertigation strategy in conjunction with SCROG. Thankfully I have been met with some beginners luck and great coaching. I have received an amazing head start on the genetic front that I am only now coming to fully appreciate.

The strains I received were clones of GG4, Sour Diesel (it does seem like what I remember from the early 2000s, but seems far fetched to be the real deal), and Lemon Poundcake. These are all genetics my friend has been maintaining for a couple of decades.

I received them in early June, and flipped them on 7/14, so these are approximately 4 weeks from seeing the first signs of flower.

I’ll continue to update here!

Nice going bud

I must admit Ive been wanting to grow some diesel again. It used to be a really dank different bud you’d smoke occasionally as it flavour was heavy. Guess it’s not the same as the 80s versions mind

Still it should a nice smoke 🙂

Your doing well by the looks of it 👍🙂

Thank you for the encouragement! Having a blast with it!

I’m excited about the Diesel. The bit I sampled from the mother’s other offspring was different than anything I’ve had in a long time. It wasn’t a daily driver for sure.

It’s been a week since the last pictures were taken, and wanted to take a couple other shots and describe the setup a little more.

I had some parts and pieces laying around to control the environment, along with enough construction knowledge to be dangerous.

I have a full bonus room available to me. This room has been removed from my central AC. I have set it up to be isolated and individually conditioned by, a 4500 BTU HVAC unit venting to the exterior. I have a full basement sized dehumidifier with pump controlling for humidity.

Tent #1 - 2x4 - VIVOSUN - 6” inline fan outside of fan driving air into the bottom. Carbon filter in opposite top corner ducted to second 6” inline fan (also outside tent). 6” clip fan in top corner opposite duct. Spiderfarmer G4500 320W. I have built a timer/drip system behind the tent with an 18 gallon reservoir. Irrigating to small runoff 5x a day. Opposing shop vac runs on 10 minute delay timer to remove runoff.

I am using Powergrows Tomato and Vegetable Formula only, currently with supplemental liquid koolbloom bulk pushing an EC of about 1600 with a PH brought down to 5.8.

This has gone full jungle so I have attempted to keep the under canopy clean with a lollipop approach to ensure airflow.

I have been able to maintain a rock solid VPD band of .9 to 1.1 throughout the day with minimal swings.

In coir You could ( should) bring that ph up to 6.1 during flowering
That said they look good

Can you explain a little more why? I’m trying to absorb as much information as I can.

My sensei is admittedly extremely good at the hardware/environmental control side, but loose with PH and Nutritional understanding. It’s the biggest knowledge gap I have. I’ve simply been following the recipe at this point, want to understand more.

Another week closer! We are starting Week 7 since first signs of flowering. (Day 50 since flip, day 43 from first sign of flower) I adjusted two of the plants up to even the canopy. The Lemon Poundcake’s trichomes all turned cloudy, and the lower canopy buds are seeming to develop.

The Diesel and Glue both seemed to gain a lot of weight, and I had to support several more colas.

Another week down! Today is day 50 from the first signs of flower. My friend did confirm my suspicion that he gave me two of the same cut in error. I have one LPC, and the other two are GG4.

Also generation 2 of the GG4 has flipped. I have tucked once since flip and doing so again tonight. Very happy with how they filled the scrogs. The one on the left was manifolded to 8 tops before scrog. The right was only topped and scrogged. Leaning manifold and scrog in the future she is much more orderly.

Here is why folks run different pH values at different times of the grow.
Different nutrients are taken up at different rates according to ph of the medium. Deep in flower the need grows for more P and K and less but not zero nitrogen.

I remove nitrogen compleatly last 2 weeks.the plant has enough stored in its selfe. Where did you get the gg from?

Thank you! I had followed @Gmix advice above and gone down the rabbit hole with it.

I pulled the pH up to 6.1 and dropped the nitrogen component of my nutrient mix by 75%. I will eliminate it next week. I have held my EC constant but made up the difference by adding Koolbloom Ripening which is a 2-45-28 mix.

They seem to have reacted very well. The runoff EC dropped immediately over the next couple days on a constant watering schedule. This suggests to me they are more effectively feeding/uptaking correct? They seem to have reacted very well visually.

Thank you for the time and info!

I can ask. My friend and circle hunted from seed and got cuts over the years and I’ve been given the blessing of his keepers. I know the origins of some and not of others.
