If there's one crazy bit of advice I got from a friend who really introduced me to guitar in the first place, it is if you want to keep pushing yourself, always keep it fun and always keep it fresh. Even "gamify" it to make it interesting.
So this friend who said that used to just sit in a room with the guitar unplugged and play little riff reactions to put music to a conversation and it was great fun for him and hilarious to us every once in a while we caught him mocking us on the axe.
So I came up with a fun one and you play it like a video game. There's an army of zombies surrounding your place and your only defense is to pick a key, any key, and break out in a live EP solo in that key strictly on the fly and keep going at it adding fresh stuff from your head. If you fuck up, the zombies nch closer and if you repeat a riff other than the one you're building everything around, you fail.
Hey don't look at me, I'm stuck looking after my two elderly parents with severe dementia right now. Either that or it's the copious amounts of weed I've been hitting just to cope with that.
