Good question about comparing Skunk#1 from different seed banks. I grew it about 2020 but my experience was more sweet/floral/fruity with a touch of earthiness and not really any hint of old time skunk. I've grown a lot of different skunk crosses and nothing has come close ... not even "Roadlkill Skunk" by SkunkReallyworks.com. Don't get me wrong, it's all been worthwhile smoke ... but a disappointment in the sense that it wasn't what I was looking for.

A long time I fail to really remember details but wasn't the original skunk line selected from a bunch all with numbers 1-??, skunk No1 just the favourite of them but others went on to feature heavily for a while.

More of a weak earthy cheese flavour I felt, not sweet. At the time sensi was the only bank people raved on for it here

Cheese actually is a skunk pheno. Again, nothing against the cultivar. Its a good one ... it simply doesn't have the nostalgia attached to it like a grow of old fashioned skunk weed. I've slowed my pursuit to find it. I'm feeling like its something that has been lost forever.

First post here, reminds me of the overgrow forum days. My first time getting high was on skunk from Montreal area in 1994 which would have made me 14. I couldn't hide this skunk smell at all. Had to keep in in the woods behind my parents house for a month before me and my friends would have the chance to smoke it. Let me tell you I've never been so fucked, very crazy way to learn what "pasties" were, my first instinct was that tooth paste would help out lol. That smell and first time high I've chased. You would swear a skunk was in the room.

You say Sensi seeds. I suppose I could try their version but I've already grown several versions from different breeders ... all claiming its Skunk #1. I'm loosing faith in finding it though. I live in one of the most saturated legal markets in the USA. Roadkill skunk would be around somewhere it if still exists.

Sensi got the original seeds and produced the most popular skunk No1 at the time, if you fail to find it in a bag of their seeds abandon all hope i reckon since Sensi transcend reputation and spent most of these later years resisting the modern breeding of a million hyped up strains favouring their older genetics and keeping them stable. Times are a changing they even got an American section now lol.

These old buds were remarkably well grown, yes less compact but no stress or issues ever just quality bud all round. Need to replicate possibly a less efficient grow as well maybe.

For some strains I do need to get a certain bank or it's just a poor comparison.

Kids these days probably won't be remembering the old strains on account of there being another million every month

If ya’ll want non fruity skunk 1 you have to look at the early skunk 1. Im getting notes of the older dank skunk in Fleur Du Mals ESB, which is a cross of an early skunk 1 selected by OT1. Its certainly not roadkill, but is extremely similar to the early 90’s skunk around here. Very subtle, is present about 15’ from the plant, but up close its masked by the blueberry. I just ordered another pack to comb through.


Here is one I have going at my parents. Not too bad other than the spider mites.

Roadkill is gonna have to be brought back through terroir imo.

No way in 98 was good skunk

It turned out great actually, just not what we were calling skunk out here in cali…to say that I was let down is an understatement…expecting roadkill skunk and getting nothing of the kind…I think I ended up with 4 or 5 females and they were pretty consistent.

Also, I read where someone mentioned shoreline….. Shoreline is just foul. Its awesome, just not what people are looking for in this thread. I didnt get skunk in mine, more like rotten fruit dipped in baby shit. Definitely worth a grow.

I have been searching for the old skunk that I smoked in the 90's that smelled like an actual skunk it was so good but I can't find it anywhere I have grown super skunk and other skunk strains but so far not even close to that old skunk strain. I just got a cut of #1 skunk and I'm hopeful this is it but I doubt it. has anybody found the real skunk strain that stinks so good?

Truth is, as a professional perfumer I can tell you the olefactory context has a rapid shift even on a collective level when it comes to things like "classic" smells. Road kill skunk was a pheno and was a term given to many bags back in the day if it was loud and stinky like a skunk. It is what people associated to the smell when they had nothing else to compare it too, and there wasnt much other loud herb on the market. I am confident to say that today there is plenty of herb that would match the description as "road kill skunk" in the 90s if transported back to that time and how people thought and associated smells. but now days most people's noses don't associate such a smell to skunk because they have way more associations. You put GMO in the 90s, people would call it skunk. Black domina was skunk. So to find the actual Road Kill Skunk pheno, would be a very difficult thing to find nowadays, because there is no real way to lock down what people were really smelling in the 90s. And the whole idea it was discontinued to grow because of legality and smell; Sorry just if that was the cases, the Chem line, diesels ect would have been canceled also because they were not an easy smell to hide. A very elusive pheno and topic discussion.

This is absurdly false due to selective breeding from stink to sweeter varieties. I can can confirm have have an extra skunk 88 skunk cut. Most of the skunky bud was coming from Mexico back in the day. I have a whole website of skunky strains to offer the community. They call me the Skunk King.
