Day 20 from seed so I guess we could call this about day 6 of veg. This is a photperiod. This should be about a 10 week flowering time after flip. Was thinking of topping above the third node and just working with the 8 main shoots that remain. Another topping and 16 plus colas? Thought this might be a unique opportunity as I am not sure how often you get 4 stem/shoots out the bottom.

What are your thoughts?
Quadbranching

I like to top mine a couple times. How much I do depends on how the plant is growing. I usually start higher than the third node, though. I also try to make sure the plant is healthy and growing vigorously before I start topping it.

i like to grow them 90 soo they crawl on the floor instead of growing up

I top a single time but scrog and veg longer to fill a tent up. Have a pic of the whole plant? What’s the grow space you’re trying to utilize, maximizing square footage coverage is the main priority (for me, may differ for others)

I go to the 6th usually then cut back to the 4th, if it’s a shorter plant I’ll top the 5th

All depends on the plant and how she’s growing. My purple urkle I topped just once and put her through lst till harvest. Produced a great amount just from that alone. My northern lights on the other hand,🫣😅😅 she took a lot from me. I topped her too early, stunted her growth. So then I decided to not top again, but alas, as nature and fate+my clumsy dipshitted (bull in a china hutch) approach to things, she was topped twice anyway by force of a dropped light. Oh yes. Somehow, that damn king led surgically removed 2 tops in one swift move….. she finished a couple weeks ago and she is sooo caked with trichomes you could snowboard down a leaf if you were the size of a gnat, but she’s got no stank on her (fucking gnats, that reminds me, I need more sticky paper and nematodes for this next run) anyway, that was quite a rant, the main point, some strains do better than others with topping and some don’t do well at all. It’s growers choice. To top? Or to not top?

Personal suggestion, BTI (mosquito bits)

Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (BTI), is a naturally occurring bacterium that targets only mosquito and fungus gnat larvae. They can be used in organic gardening to control pests in standing water or soil without harming plants, pets, beneficial insects, or other wildlife

I get a piece of cheesecloth, put about a 1/2 cup of them in and tie it up, I use 5 gallon jugs for water fill with hose let sit for 24 hours then water, leave the bits in the water, always leave at least 2-3” of water in the container to fill on top of

Used to have gnats all the time once I started that never had another one in 2 years now

Thank you kindly for the pro tip. I heard about this before so now I feel confident in jotting this down in my green book. So far the triple formula of nematodes worked and the sticky traps are nice to see how dense the bug problem is. Just in preparation for this next run as we speak so I might even try this one out along with my beneficial bugs. I just love the fact that they annihilate other pests like aphids too.

I’ve thought about it but once I started the BTI it was a wild of difference went from those sticky traps being packed to not a single one lol, gotta do it again myself, started the new 60 gallon and just gettin it going, perfect recipe for gnats lol

Dam 60 gallon pot? Of your own living soil build?! Fuck sakes you must have years in that mix? Impressive if so

I guess what I was really referring to was the additional branching at the bottom and if you might grow or top differently based on that.

but thanks anyway.
