Almost time to Harvest! Thoughts?

Im with you RoadKill! : ) if he waits another week those half cloudy trichomes will be full on cloudy and everything else will be that much further along or even more so with less weight time.

I can definitely do that for the big one. I was planning on taking its 3 main stems today or tomorrow- glad I came on here. I need more swelling on that one too lol.

I am not sure the small one will benefit any more, its a bit overshadowed by the other one too; plus it could be a good gauge of it all. This is my second outdoor grow, to be sure.

I think the step harvest could come into play if OP waits the week and takes al the tops. That stuff underneath could use that extra time and then be something : ) i only bring that up because I’ve watched dudes leave POUNDS worth of smalls and littles on the bottom of plants. They’d take off and id watch all that little Larfy stuff turn to great smokable buds! : )

The lower part of the big one is suuuper bushy, I've had to monitor it a lot of mold... but I swear jumping spiders have made some unknown pact with me to take care of all the unwanted critters hanging out around my plants. Also this one big old praying mantis

I was just out looking at mine. It really does take a few grows to see the trichomes well through the loupe and to know what you are looking for : )

One thing so far for me that has been consistent across the plants, is the sugar leaves seem to start the amber a week or so before things really start doing their thing on the buds! So if i see some “brownish dusting” on the sugar leaves i know things are getting close. Then you just gotta get out there daily to look. Take a bud and see if you like smoking that. If not you know to wait a little longer. Now mind you the trichomes will continue to degrade after harvest so if you are at 100% milky you will get into amber at some point during your drying and curring (i dont know specifics on that though, i just know its a thing)

I've heard mixed things on the trichome degradation- i know it relies on the drying process mostly, but I've seen some people claim cloudy trichomes will sometimes return to clear?

I am planning on doing a dry trim, and turning the trim/popcorn into hash then rosin.

Oh man, i havent heard that one! i dont know about that. maybe?

heck yeah! LOVE rosin! there are a couple threads here on the topic! I started one last year, i only made it half way with the setup though going to finish it this year and get the thread back up and going. have you pressed anything before? I’ve only used a hair straightener with a vice, got a decent product though! its just a major pain in the A hole!

Part of my reasoning with doing a sequential harvest is to turn the buds that endure the CO cold into live rosin, though this year it really hasn't been that cold. Plus once the bud is in the 5 gallon bin, to my understanding, there's no difference in making rosin vs live rosin.

I'm still a noob in that regard though.

Looks and sounds good. No reason you can't do a sequential harvest as long as your weather holds out.

Hell yeah dude! Thats awesome! Yeah there are a lot of tips and tricks you can do from my understanding to increase both yield and quality along with a lot of variables. There are some really talented and knowledgeable concentrate craftsmen here on the farm! : )

Voted yes. The pink hairs would be nice to preserve before they go brown, for bag appeal. There are plenty of Amber trichomes, so it will be a nice balanced smoke right now. Plenty of psychedelic energy, but enough to take you down into the couch, should you push it a bit further. Too many amber trichromes make Terpy a dull boy!

I hope you're talking about harvesting only 1 or buds to test things out. It's still pretty immature for harvest ... all of your plants. This is also the single biggest mistake beginning growers make ... harvesting too soon.

It's a personal preference at the end of the day. Personally, I prefer mostly milky trichomes; they give me energy, are psychedelic as hell and put me back down exactly where they found me. Enabling me to go about my day with my symptoms medicated AND the energy to do things. We can't just say some people are making mistakes when some genuinely have reasons for what they do. A plant in a mostly living state, as opposed to a plant that has passed the fullcrum and is practically dead at the cellular level, is offering vitality and energy in its smoke and vapour. If you are after that (you don't need sativa for that) effect, which a LOT of medicinal users are, then this is a good time to harvest. If you prefer a deeper sedative effect, then the more amber the trichomes, the better. Because it's a preference, there are NO rights or wrongs. What is right is determined by each person's individual needs and abilities.

True, its personal preferance but this is nonsense you telling him to purposely pick a plant based on the colors of premature pistils. When it dries, you have preserved nothing except immature weed. If it were actually in the harvest window, you would have a case for picking based on preference. It's not even there yet.

I harvest most of my massively, awesome, flawless plants when they are almost ALL milky as much as that may make you gnash and wail. There is no nonsense here; it's a preference. I'm not deliberately dissing you... I'm just a cheeky bugger, is all. The poll was about what our personal thoughts were in regards to when the right time to harvest these plants is. That's all I did, share my opinion. Lest I remind you, it was you dissing me for sharing my opinion...just to clarify things, eh! So kindly wind it in a bit, yeah, it's just a poll. So by the time the poll is over, there will be a lot of amber, and there will be a lot of trichome browning during drying (most don't think about that, or the fact that trichomes age while in the jar/bag anyways). Harvesting this plant now will have a nice balanced smoke and preserve the beautiful pink hairs at least for a few months. Longer if stored in the dark. Even the big milky trichomes will be amber in a day or two, so then there will be very little milky; you can see them turning in the photo below. Add those to the already amber/yellow trichs and she's a good'n by my standards. Those plants are at slightly different stages, of course, and I'm for the most part focusing on this pink-haired lady that reminds me of Punto Rojo, or anything you plant in the soil where I live due to high cadmium and other volcanic trace elements. In regard to it being a personal preference. I'm wondering at this point how stoned you are, mate, cos the purpose of a poll seems to be eluding you currently. To refresh, Polls are by definition about personal preference/opinion. You with us, mate? *snaps fingers*

I've done indoor on and off for a couple decades, there's a good amount to consider there too. Best advice i got then was proper lighting and airflow, but I was never worried about my neighbors then.

Already being a gardener (I grow fruits and perennials) helps with the outdoor stuff to a degree, i feel like the mulching and blood/bone meal wouldn't be necessary indoors. The latter attracts all types- ive seen mountain lions and Foxes in my backyard, though that may be because of the chickens.

I'll post some more pics soon, I am going to give both plants the week I think.

I lived in Idaho Springs, CO. Had my fair share of mountain lion encounters. An we all know to well about foxes in the hen house. Keep it safe Sir!
