So this is my 3yr growing outdoors. This year I'm growing Jack Herer and a few days ago I saw dried brown tops on a few nugs. I googled, then came here. So i cut what looked like the infected ones, down 1" below the what I though was the infected areas. The Top and largest one was black & brown inside. The others where just brown. Today, 2 days later I looked closer and took these pictures... Two of them (3rd & 4th pix) are what the cuts look like now, should I Spray with Trifecta Crop Control? (1st pix) is lower down, what are those white strands? (2nd & 5th) are some of the other nugs, They look like they are 2-3 weeks away from harvesting. Cut more? Spray? Harvest? Harvest then wash? I really want to save some of the Jack Herer, I also have a Slow Diesel that is about 34 feet away, so far it looks unaffected. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks BuddhaHead Steve- Seattle

ps sorry I didn't know how to re-order the pix, after looking at my own pix I going out and cutting the 2 that were already cut, looks like I didn't cut deep enough, now its as the Queen of Hearts would shout "Off With Their Heads"

Yep, bud rot,. I'm an experienced rot grower. Well, not intentionally, mind you. But 3 years ago I grew a massive cola, and a caterpillar had burrowed inside. Whole thing was toast.

Nope, nothing you can do. The spores were in the air and attached themselves on/near the stem where the flower grew and waited. Waited for the environmental conditions to be just right, then grew, and multiplied. And, of course, the most optimum time is flower time.

So are all of my cola to be held suspect? So it's to late to try something like Trifecta Crop Control, or simple H202 spray on unaffected cola?? Or is that time done & gone? Any idea what the white tread like things growing out of the 1st picture is?

ps... is it safer for containment to wear gloves? I notice that my fingers are totally sticky just handling the cola's, maybe I should spray my fingers with 70% alcohol which is what I use on my shears.

Sorry to say, there's nothing you can do at this point. Just cut that bud and some healthy bud around and toss in garbage. If you examine every bud you will find good ones. Probably not as far along as the infected ones.

The white threads? Did you use netting and was it white? I did and it frays badly when cut.
If not, it might be fluffy seed heads from nearby weeds.

I have grown Jack Herer in the past, it was a fast version, and every bud had rot. I also tried a fast Gorilla Glue with the same result. The plants themselves could have been weak, OR, the combination of environment and stage of growth just worked in the mold's favor, don't know.
I'm in Southeast Michigan and every year is a struggle. This year I'm harvesting early, too early for me 'cause the trics aren't done, but rain and 60 degree temps are headed here in a few days with mold city not far behind.
Good Luck

Sorry for the multiple posts.
Since you're growing outside it doesn't matter if you wear gloves, disinfect yourself or not. You just have to get rid of suspect buds so no one smokes them. And you need to examine every bud inside and out. Pull it away from the stem, and if you cut off the bud, treat the stem with alcohol to prevent Botrytis from growing and girdling it. (if there are good buds above that spot.

I think you might be right about the white treads, they seem plastic, I'm gonna use some fish tweeser and put some out to see wth...weeds to weed ;-)

No. It’s oil. Thyme Oil, Clove Oil, Garlic Oil, Peppermint Oil, Corn Oil, and Rosemary Oil. You don’t want oil on your buds. Chop the rotten buds out and try to carry on. If it gets real bad you’ll have to harvest early.

Have you found a pre-flowering remedy to prevent mold and insects?

I'm confused? You think the white treads are from some oil??? I haven't used anything like that. But yeah... I'm going in today for a careful and deep inspection... This is my 3rd year growing & my 1st experience with mold... sad and freaking me out! I'm like Elmer Fudd trying to shoot that dam Rabbit

answering your question, can I use Trifect Crop Control

What seriously !!! ? Not essential surely ?

When I cut the 2nd to last pix above, this is what I found inside... so Houston we have a problem (beside the Astros) So the question is there a way to stop this from spreading?
Exactly what you did, just take off that bud and hold your eye to the humidity of the room
