This is Steve, and I am new to growing weed….and may need some tips along the way…. Is it normal for such a long stem leaning down?

Hey Steve! : ) welcome to the Farm! It’s not what you want : ) you need to get that seedling into a bigger container (solo cup) bury that stem a few inches in the new container. Lower the light or turn it up slightly, which ever works. Read up on watering seedlings, there are some dos and don’ts. Start a grow thread and folks can fallow along if you have questions definitely ask them!

Thanks 😊 How is that …more soil? Also the seed is attached to one of those tiny leaves.

Hey Steve! Gnicks on it! Yes more soil than that : ) like 1 1/2 inches of plant sticking out of the dirt. Also Gnick mentioned the clear cup and roots, you can set that cup into a solo if it fits or just tape up the outside of it 👍

The reason the stem is so long is because it's stretching upwards looking for light, which means your light is either too far away, not strong enough, or a combination of the two. This is not ideal as it can make for a weaker stem that could possibly break under the weight of the buds once they start to mature.

Get rid of the clear cup, any roots exposed to the light will get burned and die. Use an opaque solo cup (the standard red ones you see) or just throw an old black sock around your current cup to block the light out. I made this mistake myself my first grow, didn't even think of it until it was pointed out to me.

I'd suggest burying some of that stem a little bit into the soil and move your light closer (or upgrade to a higher wattage light).

These are my latest Blue Dream Strains….My first plant ever, but am not too sure when to harvest. Many mature Bud photos look different. I will have to take it in soon, in case of a frost or freeze. So far the weather is holding up well.

Nice job man! Can you get a jewelers loupe? That’ll help you decide when to take it. Can you tell where the trichomes are at? Clear/milky yet?

I will order a jewelers loupe, my weak magnifying glass is only about 3 times zoom.
If you decent eyesight ( I know we don’t all see like hawks) I sure don’t lol! And you have steady enough hand you may be able to use that : )

But a jewelers loupe is going to give you that really up close views!✌️

Most recent smartphones tend to have x30 zoom nowadays. It's not the best but they have stabilizers when focussing and you can at least spot the stage of your trichs. Loop or mic still the best though.
