Should I top this plant?

Hi so my plant started as a seed, now we're at week 6 day 5. I'm using a heyabby system for this plant. The strain is rs-11 and tends to grows really tall. I have another rs-11 that I didn't train and is in a more open space and it's at least 8 feet tall now. My abby plant I did already top 3 times, once on top and once on each side. My question is I'm wondering if I should top off the top 4 sites and let the rest of the plant can catch up before I enter flowering and maybe wait another week or two before flowering.

This way you build a canopy that is broad and many buds can reach for the lights. You can top them but the plant will not like that many of the primary stems getting axed and may stall for a bit.

Super-cropping is an alternative to topping. This will allow you to get the branching running horizontal so you can weave it through the net. Be careful though. Super-cropping is a more advanced technique that must be executed correctly. It's easy to break a branch if you get in a hurry.

Just rub massage the stem between your thumb and your index finger until the stem softens enough to bend over so it can be weaved through the net. Repeat until you have all branching running horizontal.

Thanks that sounds like a good idea. So you'd recommend super cropping> topping.

To be honest I just added the net yesterday cause it started expanding. Based on what your saying maybe I adjust and raise it higher? Makes sense and thanks for the tip

I'm still debating I kind of want to top those four cause i grew a few plants with this strain and it gets crazy tall consistently. Maybe I could do two tops at a time and see how it's recovering, wait a few days before doing the next two. I'm debating. If I wind up super cropping I might wait till it grows a little taller then using magnetic hooks at the sides to bend and shorten I usually wind up doing in the abby. I just know from past experiences with this box it's gonna hit the light again. I usually wind up super cropping in the abby to avoid the light. But i'm aiming on a shorter plant this time so idm taking longer to flower. But I did move one top under the net to spread out, test it but I feel like that winds up blocking more of the under growth a bit more then from the light so kept it as it is for the moment.

Topping is not a bad idea. It will certainly do what you want it to do. However, just like @JIMKSI64 stated, it will likely slow them down temporarily. This is fine if you're willing to wait for new growth to occur before flipping to 12/12 for your flower cycle. Where people get in trouble with topping is they get impatient and don't allow that extra time. Topping is easier than attempting super-cropping especially if you've never super-cropped before.

I'd view super-cropping as an option. However, it may not be the best option for you.

I am a big proponent of LST. You have the net already in place. I would just train her so that you have an even canopy that encompasses the entire net. This will allow her to grow a nice SCROG. If you have any questions as to SCROGGING there are plenty of sites that mention this process. Keep us updated. Happy trails….

Yeah I think i'm gonna go with topping just because of the unit it's in. The abby is only like 4 ft tall. Last grow with this strain in the box wound up getting crazy. I did super crop but it was tough because the plant is dense for the space. A clone i'm growing from the mother right now outside of a tent in the open is at least 8ft tall and reaches my ceiling since I had never topped her. Untopped it can get to double the size of the unit so then super cropping still doesn't give her enough space. Anyway I'm down to wait an extra week or two before flowering so gonna go that route this time.

Thank you @Oldchucky !! Few weeks back he mentioned Herms, gave me a nightmare around 2am. ( My lights are on at night to save coin) Anywho I check both tents an Sure Enough there was bad balls from a freebie fem seed trying to completely wreck my world.

I don't even drop the net until they recover from topping. Once I see new shoots. Then I swolly bring the net down.
Starting on one of the back sides, putting them where I want them. Work the way to the front. I suggest just getting the top shoots at first, just barely above the net. Show them the light, in about 8-10 days re adjust then bring the net down.

Thank you that's a good idea. I wound up removing my net for now then till she recovers and she seems happier

To update I did top her a few days ago. She's seems to be recovering nicely. Giving 1-2 weeks between before starting flower.

A lot happier. Get yer branching where you can spread the canopy to occupy as much space as possible. Then drop the net an capture a nice yield of nuggets.
