Container is on an angle to test of it will help grow straighter roots. Theory is that gravity will help it decide which direction to grow. Laying flat I sometimes get a spiral root and it is hard to transplant those into neoprene collars.

3 of 6 seeds have roots almost long enough to go in neoprene collars. 2 more have visible roots, but not as long. Last seed finally cracked and has a root tip poking through.

The roots seem to be following the grooves in the paper towels. I didn't think of that, but next time I will make sure the grooves are vertical. Gravity plus grooves and I think I may be able to control root direction.

Badass!🤩 great idea on the sound damper!
Turns out I had to remove it. The air pump got too hot after about 72 hours and it shut off. After letting it cool down the pump is working again. Hopefully I didn't damage it. I can deal with the noise if it means saving the pump. I'll experiment with other ways to dampen the sound while still giving it plenty of space to disperse the heat. Ideally I would have it inside the exhaust duct. I may try connecting the container to the duct and hang the air pump inside the container.

And it is quiet again!! Hooked it up through the exhaust duct. Threw a sensor in there to monitor the temp. So far it is staying cool, but it has only been 15 minutes or so. Still need to seal it up with duct tape, but will do that after I see the temp in 24 hours.

6th seed is still growing out its root, very slowly. It is only about 1/2" long at the moment. The others are doing well.

One of the seedlings (middle-left) has a starter leaf missing, but I see the next set growing so should be all good.

Next weekend, the 5 with the best roots will go into the RDWC units. The 6th will remain in the tote until sex is determined. Would be nice to get 5 females, but I will be happy with at least 2.

Need to assemble the RDWC units this weekend and throughout the week. Will be nice to reclaim some space in my bedroom once all the buckets are in the closet again.

Air pump temp is stable, sitting at 2-3 degrees higher than lung room temp. No sign of anything melting inside the container. I will give it another day and then seal it up with duct tape. That should help with the sound even more.

6th seed root was growing too slow so I just decided to put it in the closet even though the root doesn't make it entirely through the collar. It spent too long germinating and doesn't look too well. I don't expect that one to make it, but time will tell.

The rest are doing pretty well, especially the top ones and the middle-right. Those 3 have roots longer than the net pot holding them. All of the seedlings are a bit lanky, so I upped the light from 20% to 30%. Not worried about them being lanky though since I will bury them as deep as possible when I move them to their final homes. Want to keep these under 5" for as long as possible to stay legal for as long as possible. Once my 12/12 from seed plant in the tent is harvested then I won't have to worry about height of these.

Sealed up the sound dampening container. The air intake hose is now the loudest part. Extended it a bit and aimed it away from the open room. Would be best to extend that all the way to the window so it uses the cold outside air. Will probably end up doing that this week.

Is that Cottonel?? 😂

All of the RDWC units have been assembled. Still need the air stones from the tote and the tent though. Also need to purchase 2 more water pumps so they are all the same. Currently using 3x vivosun 210gph, the 317gph from the cloner, and a random 80gph.

I am currently doing a leak test on one unit and will be moving the water from unit to unit to leak test them all.

There is 11 gallons being circulated in there. Turns out that is the max since it comes up to the bottom of the net pot. I will let it cycle for at least an hour, then check to see if water accumulated near the union fitting.

I will run all these units with only 10 gallons. Originally thought I would be using 12, but 10 will do just fine. Less trips to the water filter to fill them up. 😆
