Hi all, new to growing here - this is my first seedling. I was wondering if anyone can diagnose what is going on here, are these true leaves in the middle? This is day 7 of seedling/early veg(?) stage, it’s only been under the grow light for 2 days so maybe it’s growth was inhibited since it was using natural light prior to this and only getting 6-8 hours of indirect light. Based on my understanding it should have grown true leaves at this point? Light is here - ViparSpectra P1000. It was about 30 inches away but has been moved closer to about 20 inches away. Also, I’m going to be away for about 4-5 days, should I water a bit heavier? Light is on a timer.

Welcome to the farm!

I'm not sure what you mean. It looks normal to me. The first rounded leaves are the cotyledons that immediately provide nutrients to the plant. They go away eventually.

Maybe it's slow. It might be stretching to seek light, so it could use more light, but it's not bad.

They don't always grow according to a schedule. We'd need more information to know why it's growing slowly. The good news is it's growing and looks healthy.

That's probably about right.

I'd water it just before leaving, for sure. That soil looks like it would hold moisture for quite a while. How often have you been watering it so far?

Your round leaves are called cotyledons. They are the seed leaves that hold all the nutrients that will initially feed your plant. What is growing out from the cotyledons is your first set of true leaves, which are typically one fingered fans followed by a node of 3 fingered fans and then a node of 5 fingered ones.

Looks like a normal seedling, but the soil looks pretty wet, so take care to ensure the soil is moist but not too wet, so that the roots have good oxygen levels.

If you are going to be gone for several days you might want to put someone in charge of checking on it. Small pots can dry up quickly and you don't want to oversaturate it either.

Hi, thank you for the reply! I thought it was looking a little unhealthy/showing signs of stunted growth so thank you for confirming this is not the case! I have been watering using a spray bottle once every 2-3 days, I've seen conflicting information on when to water anywhere from multiple times a day to once every 5-7 days

Hi, thank you for your reply and confirmation that all is well. This picture was taken a little bit after watering so that's why the soil is so moist. Unfortunately, I do not have anyone who I am comfortable with watching my plant (everyone else is out of town for Thanksgiving too :P) so I will water a bit before leaving so that it can stay somewhat moist. There is some space for water to go via some rocks at the bottom for drainage (no holes in pot) so I think it'll be ok to slightly overwater it since I will be gone for a few days.
