I have harvested my grow. I fucked up and a couple of buds got botrytis. It was minimal and I was able to salvage most of the crop.
The flowers are really loose and airy. I don't mind this because I don't try to sell any of my stuff-all personal use. Is the airiness a genetic deal or did I cause this? I don't feel like the potential of the crop is compromised but I may be wrong??
First sample was a nice surprise. After the very first hits I was placed in another world. It was so fun.
Thanks

Maui wowie cut and dried and sampled but i have questions 2

Is the airiness a genetic deal or did I cause this?
IDK the answer to your question but I'll give some feedback so your not just hanging. Your harvest looks good and your saying it's got some kick so, hey, way to go! ๐Ÿ˜€
Does it have that Hawaiian flavor profile? I'll always remember the first time I smoked some Hawaiian weed back in the 70's. Love that smell and flavor. If I grow this strain will I get transported back in time and relive my adolescent experience?

Well I guess ima nobody!? WOW ๐Ÿ˜‰
All buds are difference......all growing styles will create different results......2 different growers will create two different finish products!!!! New age weed was created to a little more stock with bigger more dense buds for the sake of production. Old school lineage was just original weed, so usually the more old school......more airy buds!!
Those look on point ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿผ

Congratulations on the harvest! It sounds like the most important test passed with flying colors, if the sample "placed you in another world," you definitely succeeded where it counts.
To answer your questions regarding the bud structure:
1. Is the airiness genetic or grower error?
This is almost certainly genetic, and it is actually a classic trait of the strain. Maui Wowie is a Sativa (originally a Hawaiian landrace). Unlike modern Indicas that are bred for rock-hard, dense nuggets, Sativas naturally produce a looser, fluffier, and more elongated "foxtail" structure.
Evolutionarily, this is a feature, not a bug! That open structure allows air to flow through the bud, which helps the plant survive in high-humidity tropical climates without rotting. (Ironically, that structure likely saved the rest of your crop from the botrytis you found!)
2. Is the potential compromised?
Absolutely not. Density is mostly about "bag appeal" for commercial sales. It has very little to do with the actual chemical composition of the resin. If the trichomes are there and the effects are strong, the plant reached its potential.
Summary:
You didn't mess up; you just grew a Sativa that behaved like a Sativa! Since you aren't selling it, the lack of density doesn't matter at all. Just keep a close eye on your jars during the cure since you did spot some mold earlier, just to be safe.
Enjoy that smoke!

Thanks for the reply. I didn't sense a flavor profile that sticks in my mind. It's only been curing for a week or so. My first grow, of purple kush, didn't have a ton of aroma until it cured for a couple of weeks so maybe the MW will be similar in that the flavor & is smell will come out more once cured?
I wish I had a source for seeds other than seed banks. I honestly don't know if they are more about marketing than they are about making long term clients. I'm going to see about purchasing seeds from someone here but I've yet to venture into that area of the forum.
Thanks

Excellent news!

Thanks.
