Cold nasty day. Rain stopped so I took a trip on the property without telling the wife. Got a txt on the cell with this pic...and the message "where you Fn goin and are you carrying". My reply "out n yes". I never leave home without it.

Juvenile Cooper’s hawk that was hanging around outside the shop.
I love birds of prey. My favorite is the Swallow Tail Kite but since our move I haven't seen any. We do get the more common Mississippi Kite here and I like them a lot too.

Where I lived in Texas we were in the migration path and we would see Kettle after Kettle after Kettle of Broad Wings flying over at peak migration. Would stretch for miles. Amazing.

A Cooper's pic I took 35 years ago when I could still take good pics.

We have red tails that will roost in the hedgerow along the property line. They'll try to catch dinner at the birdfeeder, but they're too big and the songbirds dive for the pine tree. The coopers and marsh hawks scare them into the windows. If I see it and walk up the hawks leave, but the dead bird will be gone the next day. Critters, critters, critters.
So glad for modern civilization. LOL

My neighbor has two giant HAM antennas in their yard and they're a magnet for birds of prey. We've got some great horned owls who stop by regularly and they're a real hoot, pun intended. They sometimes make honking peacock type noises and then taper of with a series of rapid hoots. Wife and daughter think the honking is the owls challenging the fake owl we have in our yard to a fight. Unfortunately my phone takes crappy pictures. But here's audio of one I recorded one night.

We have three pairs of Barred Owls that inhabit our woods, at best count. This one was staring at me one evening as I watched TV.
