Very cool, love snakes, even the poisonous ones. Leave them alone they leave you alone ( usually). Here's a copperhead I escorted off the property last year. We usually have more of those but for some reason we've had more of their cousins (Cottonmouth)...

We usually have more of those but for some reason we've had more of their cousins (Cottonmouth) this last year. I escort all the venomous off my property but usually leave the others alone. Unless the rat snakes are in with the chickens then those I'll relocate. And I rarely ever see any at all this time of year.

Big ass Gopher was sunning herself. Hone schoolers with 7 kids. Highlight of the year for a few who touched a snake for the first time🥰

I brought home, caught on a road while leaving a client in the trailer park of Lawrence Welk retirement village.

Gopher and King here mainly. I've seen and even more herd, rattlers through my years😉

I love Kings, of all kind. They are ophiophagous so they are a friend of mine. Same with Racers and some other Colubrids.

No pics but about 15 years ago wife and cat were screaming over a beutiful yellow/brown pattern in the hallway🤣 I took it outside and let it go😉

I use to keep a couple species 30+ yrs ago. A pair of Ball Pythons and bred a South Eastern US Smooth Green snake and Grey tree frogs. Built terrariums to hold them, half land and half water with a waterfall and warm water plants, both territorial and aquatic.

These days I talk to the local lizards and the 3 lined skinks while gardening and fixing local tree frog habitat hoping to move them into the greenhouses this year.

We've had them heavy with March/April rains so I know they're around, theres a permanent population. Neighbors across the street can't build anything on their 4 acres as they sit on an aquafer so county won't allow any new building.

Couple years ago in my small, currently crushed🤣 greenhouse

I got a large plastic turtle, with a lid that was a sand box for the kids. Holds about 5-6 gallons of water and I've got an air pump with bubble stones for it. It sits under a tree and near my large greenhouse. I hope to have it up and running by March.

I'm a little too far north for cottonmouths and the rattlesnakes in VA all live in the mountains, never seen them down here in the lowlands. Used to see a few eastern kings around but haven't seen one in years and now copperheads are everywhere. Have a huge black rat snake that hangs around a brush pile next to my compost pile. I think it hunts the rodents that munch on the goodies in the compost pile so it's very welcome.

My dogs found it all curled up and sunning itself just a bit ago. Luckily my dogs listen well and I called them back off of it. I’ve seen more cotton mouths this last year than we had before.View attachment 2591274

Literally a snake in the grass. 😳 I grew up in NH and went the first 25 years of my life unaware that we had venomous snakes. Right up until a camping and fishing trip with two cousins. We chose to do a hike in spot for big brook trout on the dead diamond river. We got about a mile in from the trailhead and started seeing dead snakes on the dirt road. After seeing the second or third one we noticed that they had rattles on their tails. From what we could tell, a den must’ve been near by and the young snakes were probably just sunning themselves on the road. Eventually we came across a live one on the river bank. None of us ever expected to see those snakes, let alone knew they were native to our state. I hate to say it but seeing a few dead ones might’ve been a good thing. It got our attention, otherwise I worry that one of us could’ve been bitten. That wouldn’t have ended well for us,being an hour from the car, and another hour to the nearest hospital. Apparently New Hampshire fish and game biologists are only aware of a few isolated populations in the state, and ask people to report sightings. This is for the snakes benefit, so precautions can be taken to protect them.

Broke open the jar of Gelato that I swore smelled like a berry pop tart. It has shifted. Now it smells just like a fruity kids' cereal. That fake fruity smell.

So now I've got a Banana OG that smells like the fake banana they put in candy, and a Gelato that smells like the fake fruit they put in cereal. 🤣

The seeds look cool

I got a snake joke for you all. There was 2 guys hiking....the one dude was taking a piss and got bit by a snake on his penis....he was laying there freaking out in pain. The other dude said hey...im gonna run over to the reservation and ask what I can do.....so he runs off. He gets to the reservation....the chief said....you make a small cut across where the bite was and you suck out all the poison....and he will be okay. The guy thanked the chief and ran off to his buddy. His buddy is in terrible pain when he gets back....the guy asked what did they say.....his buddy looked at him in tears....and said... he said you're gonna die mother fucker....you're gonna die. 🤣😂

This is the one that often gets confused with the Cottonmouth. It has a similar body shape but it's tail is longer. It is very aggressive and will strike and bite but it's nonvenomous. It will flatten it's head, like a hognose does, to make it appear more menacing. It's why some say the Cottonmouth is aggressive when mostly a Cottonmouth would rather just go away.

Plainbellied and cottonmouth when younger can be confusing. And you are better off just leaving either go about their business.
