The other day you mentioned on strain you were having trouble reclaiming. Here’s what I was talking about when I said that they are all a little different. It’s been an hour after I pressed and was putting the rosin away. One strain is still sticky AF while the other strain actually broke apart when I tried to trim some off, hard as glass and sticky AF, no 2 are the sameView attachment 2592871
Oh man no doubt! There is probably some of the actual pressing that could be doing some evolving of the end product? How cool is it where you do your pressing? Were warm here right now so i’m using a cold plate to scrape it off the paper : )

Yeah there are some pretty talented pressers here on the farm, you included! Thanks again for getting this out there! 🤩

excellent point bear. It was around 45@F out in the shop yesterday which is ideal for working with rosin. If I do press in the warmer months I have an old deep freezer out there to get things the set up.

Your pressed stuff looks like mine I mean the leftover stuff do you really need to use a bag? I fought the bag was soo the plant material stays compact soo more force can be exerted on the buds.
And did you try to do a second press when you cut your pressed plates and stack them? I got an extra 0.3 from the second press

If I’m pressing a gram or 2, bags are optional. Other than that it’s a waste of good flower without a bag, imho

I played a game for the first couple years after I bought my press, we called it “did I get it all?”

Short answer no, pressing doesn’t get it all. But a soak in everclear will yield way more than a 2nd press

yea i learned that from this years chocolate strong as fuck and i used only 20g of pressed i was expecting to hit like a joint :S.
i still havent tried alcohol. its probably gonna happen sooner or later
i saw your lab equipment for reclaming alchohol i find it amazing

Exactly! : ) it’ll hold it in place instead of spreading out all through the pressed out rosin. I’ve pressed a nice nug minus the bag and it worked great, the nugs smashed area stayed small enough to not run into the rosin.

I wanted to add that when I’m able to smash whatever whenever (cause some day I’ll get good at growing weed🤣) I’ll do some presses with more material minus the bags to see what’s up with how far you can push a bag less press.

Welp pulled this one out of left field!😳🤷‍♂️🤣

I had the two different strains split and was planning on pressing each individually and bag less. As I started to prep I decided against the smaller amounts and mixed them together AND bagged them!😂

heat 220* total pre press weight was 7g and possibly less as I removed more stems after weighing. Ended up with over a gram pull! And there’s more to claim off the paper in the freezer.

Total press time was more in the 6 minute mark. I’d hit the timer for a minute and slowly press.

Right on!🤩 that stuff looks great! 👍 nice set up! and thank you for the tips.

mind sharing your ins and outs? this is something im obsessed with as im also new to making rosin. the weight in to weight out pill is still stuck in the back of my throat!🤣 I’ve gone per recommended with the 120micron, i would like to eventually try some 90s. at this point, im all about quantity : )

what strain did you press?
BEAR! Ive been using 37 micron bags for flower recently with great success, I'll share a doc when I'm through pressing this last harvest with all the numbers but yield difference was extremely minimal between the 120 & 37.

I've been doing a 60-90 sec warm up with little to no pressure, then very slowly increasing to 1100psi or so for a total of 240 seconds.

Anywhere from 170F-200F I forgot to mention, have been trying to keep it low as possible. Some stuff seems to sugar up instantly if you dip too low.

Love the color looks like shatter

How much did you get with the 37micron bag? I got 16% no bag
What does sugar up mean?

What up Thukah! : ) Oh I’ve seen your set up!🤩 you end up with some really nice stuff!

I can’t wait to try some other bags and techniques: ) I was looking into a double bag setup to try to mitigate blowouts. But really I’m totally fine with a couple pieces of herb in there, I just pick it out😆

Have you tried higher temps? The first press I did was lower in temp, and I think my herb was still a little on the fresh side.

What amount are you usually pressing? Do you have a sweet spot?

I’m thinking the color is from a longer press at the 220* temp? I even smelled that “decarb popcorn smell”.

Hey if you want a few of these bags I have let me know. I ordered a 40 pack!🤣 I’ll send you some if you want to try the bags before getting any. Also, they are so many companies you can order from. I’ll bet I could find a bag that’s less prone to blowout.

Great question, I have gone up to around 220, with my really waxy stuff that likes higher temps I was able to squeeze out a couple more points but it gets so dark at those temps. I’ve settled with lower temps and a longer press, really easing on the pressure slowly. Letting it heat up for 60 even 90 seconds before applying very gradual pressure.

In terms of bottle tech and a sweet spot for weight, I’ve tried everywhere between 3g and 11g. With 3.5 and below giving consistently higher yields!

Great info! : ) thanks for sharing. I know so much of the outcome and yields have a lot of variables! But this info just paints a great picture with all the other info shared here!🤩

so without changing things too much, im going to try a 7 gram press with all the heat and press parameters the same for one press. then im going to try a 3.5 gram amount. using a different herb, stuff i havent pressed yet at all. so im sure things will be different : ) rambling dude, sorry! lol. so the 3.5gram ill lower the temps and increase the time! along with trying your method of slow application of pressure!

Get back from the clinic the day after I made 5 different rosins. Couldn’t help myself and tried the lemon tree. WOW, never had such a sweet hit. Took a second hit and needed a breathing treatment again.

Just to add more variables and confusion, I found a bottle style pre press on thingiverse and started cutting the 4 inch bags into 3 sections for the little pucks.

Now we’re getting into the nitty gritty! 🤩

so you are folding both ends over to secure them. they stay put?
