Yeah, when I set up the game, cams the deer, steal the show at night! Bucks are kind of few and far between around here!
Night before last my woods were teaming with wild life. Had fox, raccoons, bobcat, squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, of course deer, and a bunch of different birds. I do feed the deer. The guy beside me owns the property in every side of me and has 15-20 people come hunt his land every deer season. They shoot everything they see and left a couple button bucks as orphans so I figured I’d just help supplement them and make those -35 degree nights a little easier for them.

Some guy did the same to me, told him to eat a bag of dicks. Among other things
I was actually fairly polite. I retired from the marine corps after 25 years in sept 2 years ago. My grow room is my sanctuary and talking about growing is the thing that keeps my attention and keeps my mind occupied. So well that’s that.

I used to do some bow hunting in the hills on the west side of Corning before the fire. Was talking to a guy in the campground and he had set up some game cams, one in the campground a couple months earlier, he showed me a pic of a mountain lion dragging a forked horn just about where he was camped! After that I was real particular about where I set up when hunting, no more rocky ledges below overhangs!
Took my buddies grandson out for the last day of the youth hunt, it was slow, but he got a nice drake canvasback!

Good for him! I am not a duck hunter but good for him ducks can be tough to shoot. Looks like the same shotgun I have.

I actually thought it was a Remington 870 when I first saw it, but it’s actually a Winchester, don’t recall the model. He’s getting to be a pretty good shot, and he’s been getting a lot of practice driving the boat to/from hunting.

I have too so beg to differ but that's cool!
Please tell me, maybe I’m doing something wrong, I love hunting them, but if I won’t eat it, I won’t shoot it. My issues have been they have almost no fat, and tend to get dry/tough when roasted. They’re fine slow cooked, but you can only eat so many turkey burritos!

Lots of butter and lots of basting.

Never done a wild turkey but I love smoking turkeys and agree lot and lots of butter. I came across a Cajun recipe that is magnificent. Maybe stuff them with the high moisture ingredients. Maybe lots of apples and onions. I am absolutely guessing but maybe anything that would help with moisture.

Slow roasting, around 250-300 with lots of basting is what we do. Then for the final blast we hit it with about 375 (not test but set on my oven) for the last hour for crisping. We don't do the bags or others things on wild Turkey. Makes for a moist, tender but with a nice crisp to the skin.

My son like's to smoke but I don't have a good smoker. He also likes to use the deep fryer but it's too damn messy for me. Although I'll deep fry some catfish in a heartbeat. But the again>>did I just post a pic on someone's thread...wellllll fuck me.

Thanks, I’ll try that. I’ve always tried to cook them like a store bought turkey, that may be the issue!

You don’t worry about that here, old timer! We just breast them! And as usual, you have to undercook them! Like any wild game! Good slicing the breast up into medallions and rolling them in seasoned flour and deep frying them! My 84-year-old neighbor stopped by to drink a beer and tell lies!
