I was looking at how much a Bruce Banner auto will typically yield. It got me thinking that a new sub might be cool??
This could actually be a great way to provide some real life data on variety yields if enough participate.
It appears that the standard for plant yield is measured per square meter. I like this standard because a tall plant may indeed yield less than a plant that's been trained to grow wider/lower.
How can this sub idea be presented to the owner/mods?
Thanks

I like yield pr kilo watt hour even more.
Problem is almost nobody under 30 can calculate anymore so i guess thats why it is not a thing?
Hard to compare one that got 300watt vs one that got 150watt for example without that factored in.
Also if people really got it dialed in, and got plant ready real fast, it wouldn't show without KWh / yield

Other vice good idea 👍

Way too many variables involved. Mfg already gives u an estimate for indoor and outdoors yields. Only thing they didn't add was..YYMV
( Your yield may vary). It all depends on genetics, and no seed is identical.

I grow outdoors, tried the one topped and LST, and one left to grow by gods hand. I had a problem with one being affected by a early cold front about 2/3rds into flower, the buds just stopped filling out, leaves died and fell off prematurely. But still managed a pound from it. But the other was 1 1/2 lbs of chunky buds, but not as many buds as the other plant. So in reality, if the one had stayed healthy...it would have produced more growing gods way.

But I'm done with dealing with 10+' tall plants and standing on shakey ladders, I'll stick with topped and trained 8' plants

Always thought grams per watt was silly.
How do you quantify light watts when you start at 250 ppfd and end at 1000 ppfd.
Gunna be a really cool maf problem to get even an average.
And like a lot of growers I never see max lights cause there are a lot of lights in them tents and max was not needed.
Specially with 18-6 autos.

I installed this emporia energy monitor in the circuit panel of the grow container, pretty much for me to nerd out on numbers 🤣. A bit overkill, but what isn’t about the whole thing I built, so I figured why not have it, just to see. For anyone interested, It’s a pretty easy install, don’t have to disconnect any wiring to install, just have to be confident enough to remove the panel from your breaker box and not touch any of the live terminals in there. It reports via wifi and is accessible by phone or computer any time you would like. Can be found on Amazon.

I have a lot of electrical test equipment around the place and could pin out lights only but it is not a data point I find useful or even interesting.
Much rather worry about watering and proper nutrition.
I have had some epic fails from technology that any experienced grower could have told me with a picture. I had a spreadsheet ( XLS ) for watering that had columns for water add and top dress add. One of the columns for top dress had a null for the addition for 1/2 the pots. This measured weight and was the final day in whether I would water that day.
So every top dress and soil add was not adding to the amount I expected so the pots started running heavier on water.

Then my first grow was hydro.
With a $29.95 PH/EC pen kit. Later I checked the pour and stir correction/test fluid and according to my 2 digit Apera 60 kit the 7.0 fluid measured 7.6 pH
I still forget to lock my screen and pocket bump my ACI app and skyrocket temp or humidity. At least the notifications work. I use the phone notifications and have had several audio files for the notification. I had the red alert from original Star Trek but after getting woke up to that racket I just have a repeat chirp noise till it's off.

I bought the ACI hydro sensor to use in my reservoir once I get it set up. Currently using their PH Pen which I believe is made by Apera as well. For moisture tracking I am using the Ecowitt sensors. Those are pretty neat. Below is a graph of one of my plants. One of my nicknames from a previous co worker years ago was “Inspector Gadget”

i just use one of these costs 10$

simple plug in powerplug does 3.6kW max power

I played table top games for 20 years. I got named data stack and through 8th addition the go to for rules due to the ability to recall useless gaming rules......

Yeild? I've had a huge flux beween 2 clones and it wouldn't make any sense. One produced 3 or 4 pounds and another that had problem(s) gave me a few ounces.

I've been growing GDP for years and never once had 2 plants produce the same amount as there are so many variables.

I no longer try and grow trees
20240706 125621

as my back aches too much to sit and trim for hours. A 3' tall several ounce plant is perfect these days😉

This may sound strange to most but I go by how much the plant (indoor growing) drinks on average per day and expect to get 1 oz dry cured weed per cup of water used. Of course this is based on the late flower usage.

math looks good but mine drank 2L a day with 100W light and with a 500W.if you have a different vpd you get a big difference in how much she drinks...

But you can water a pot and where is the water going for each particular grower? Talk about variables!
I'm proposing a REAL LIFE gathering of data. No math etc PERIOD.
How better to get the actual average yield than data gathered by real growers with real plants?
I'm probably wrong but it seems like a fun play toy that, in time, could provide real data. Not the data engineers calculate or "science" provide.
After flu and that psycho Fauci (think 6ft "social distancing" , masks and on and on) I will never trust science again.

What you're looking for is g/kWh. I calculated mine for a 300 g harvest under a 200 w light in 90 days using "REAL LIFE" results. It's .25 g/kWh. If I duplicate those exact same numbers this grow, it goes down to .16 g/kwh. Why? Because I've been running a heater this batch. I'm using almost 50% more kwh.

So I'm trying to maximize space more with a scrog, and get a more efficient g/w by extending the days. But the trade off is it raises the kWh. Seeing that the weather is warming up and my heater use is going down, my kWh will lower on its own. When this run is done I'll crunch the numbers and report back.

Yield means totally different things to different people 💚

Like a couple folks pointed out, there are too many variables to get a reliable ballpark figure without just summing your accumulated grows together for an average.

There's also no reason arguing over which metric. Put them all together to look at as meaningful data telling you different things. Grams per watt of your light. Ounces per square foot. Total energy used in kwh for the whole run. It's what you do with the data that counts, and their value is in both planning and evaluation.

once you go away from just lights g/w you have too much variables.most coming from the outside world.if the world is cold you have to heat if the world is wet you have to dry its all stuff that doesnt have to happen in an average grow but the year is just different

It's easy math for me.
I pop a seed, put it in a pot for a month or two under cheap T12 full spectrum, move into the garden.

Amendments, soil, ect.ect. $100 (being generous). ÷ by two plants
$50 each. Yield. 2.5 lbs.

Anyone buying pounds for $50!! 🤣
