i've never posted on here before just seeing if i can get some feedback what i'm doing right or wrong growing in coco. to give a little background info i'm on my 4th grow in a 2x2x4 tent. first grow i got a clone from someone and didn't know how to train it, flipped lights too late and ended up with a plant too big for my small space. since then i've been doin what i can to keep them short. the second grow i used a 5 gal pot and as soon as the plant hit veg it boomed. i topped it after the 3rd node early on and started tying branches down but didn't see any signs of stress ever, it just kept growing fast. 3rd one went slow for reasons of my own fault. i'm now on my 4th and this is where i have the questions. i've heard it's difficult to do but after germination i started the seed right in a short, wide 10 gal fabric pot with the thought process of giving roots plenty of room while keeping it low away from my light. i've watered it just around the stem for the most part since i've had it in a bigger pot than it ought to be. again i topped after the third node and defoliated probably earlier than i've read i should to try to start shaping it, and tied branches down. generally i only water every 2 days, but what worries me is if i water enough to produce runoff it takes like 4 days to really dry out enough where i should water again so i think i'm overwatering but the plant is growing decently but its not growing so fast like i've seen my other plants do. the first pic is of the plant 4 days ago right after i defoliated and the rest of the pics are from today. there might not even be anything wrong? i don't know it just seems to be going slow but doesn't look unhealthy. any advice would be appreciated.

I thought that as well, but assumed he is doing an organic coco mix. I'd think they'd be showing more issues if doing coco with the "normal" ways of using it.

Since its your 4th grow I assume your in buffered coco. I also assume its a feminized photoperiod based on what you said about your previous grows. What are you feeding it with, I assume a salt based nutrient line since you mentioned runoff? Your probably going to need to do lots of low stress training with that short tent maybe some supercropping, I would also top each on the mains a second or maybe a third time based on the genetics of the strain. In the future you might try autoflowers as they tend to be a bit shorter on average and often flower sooner particularly in a smaller pot.

Plant looking good.

thanks for the feedback. i'm actually using non buffered coco just a washed 70/30 mix. nutrient wise i used the flora series from gen hydro and ease into the 6 part once i flip the lights. haha the third plant, or plants i should say, that i said i messed up by my own doing was actually because i bought buffered coco and didn't realize it and kept feeding it my gen hydro stuff. ended up throwin a few seedlings out before i figured it out

It should be buffered to pre-charge it with calcium and magnesium and washed to get rid of salts. If you haven’t already check out the site " https://www.cocoforcannabis.com/ website". They helped me a lot when I first started.
Again though, your plant is looking good to me.

i didn't realize i could get it buffered with just calcium and magnesium that sounds like something i'd be interested in. ive just been mixing in the gen hydro calimagic with all my other stuff my coco isn't buffered with anything. i'm gona check out that site tho

Youre growing in coco and doing it soil style and there's nothing wrong with that per se... You can treat coco as a soil or as a hydro and how you are doing your watering as well as how you prepare the medium are the key differences. You dropped your seedling in a big pot... That was committing to a soil style. If you wanted to use it as a hydro you want a small pot that gets watered frequently and dries up quick.

Because you're in a big pot you treat it and do your watering as if it was in the ground. You're watering around the drip line of the plant to encourage roots to grow away from the plant. You're not watering to runoff. Just enough to properly moisten the expected root exploration zone. If you water to runoff It makes the medium too wet and takes too long to dry back without a root system in there.

Things to watch for: You shouldn't need to worry about salt buildup because you've got enough medium to absorb it if you are watering right and not overfeeding. Since you are in coco and allowing it to go through wet and dry states, keep an eye out that the coco doesn't start displacing cal and mag. Even if it's buffered, that just buys you some time before you have to start managing it.

Looks like you're in good shape, and probably intuitively know how to avoid the big landmines.

I appears he is doing the hydro type grow as he is using the flora series which is salt based if its the flora treo. Does not commit to soil if in big pot just makes it a challange to water/feed properly unless I missed something.

GH Flora series can be used in soil just fine. I use the Flora Micro... Albeit sparingly... A couple drops at the flip and thats it. The 32 oz bottle I have is enough that I'm going to run out of Ninja before I run out of Flora Micro. 🤣

You're not committed to anything for an entire grow, I mean that in a lazy grower sense. You can convert a soil grow to a hydro and hydro to soil mid cycle but you don't want to do that after you flip.

Your plants are over watered. Take a look at the leaves they are all droppy. Saturated allow dry time. I know water coco everyday bla bla. I am doing a few and on week 5 I had the same troubles in coco droppy slowed down. Please dont water again until pot is lite. Then give nutes and allow dryback if the plant is not drinking what you give it then why.give it more. Once you get a feel.for what the plant needs watering will be second nature. Remember allow dry back. Stop all watering until the pot is lite then feed wait.again then feed. You will see the difference. Once plant can drink a liter a day then give it drtback will be faster because she's thirsty. Watering is when its needed. This in coco it drinks 4 liters every second day when it was small 1 liter every 2 to 3 days.

Lite pots is the key until they drink it faster. Dryback even in coco is essential. Happy growing. I have a very detailed grow on grow diaries. You will see week 5 to 7 over water changed my watering habits and they explode. Take a look condocannabus. Here's a few pics to check out. 2x3 grow tent
