I am in week two with two plants, one plant roots have hit the water well and truly the other plant hanging just above the water. EC is at .4, even though the tapwater is .3, what is a safe EC?, First time grower just learning.

Ec that stays stable. There is no magic number one strain will eat ec 3 other will struggle with 0.9 when you hit a stable number your where you should be

I just run on the air we breath and I would run 1.2ec as it’s worked for everything I have run in water.

Gives me stability on both fronts ec and ph.

I run RO and would put .15 ec of calmag then a&b to 1.2 .

Like an easy bake oven. Set it and forget it.

Is 0.9 ok for week 2
only you will know. messure now and when you messure tommorow if it moves far away from it adjust if it doesnt dont.hopfuly you have small pots soo changes will be shown fast

You can dismiss some what of your tap EC is contributing but you don't want to write all of it off. I read it as contributing half the value it really is and it works out without over pushing. I have 0.8 - 1.0 in my tap so I will back about 0.4 - 0.5 off from the number I see and take that as the true EC feed strength. As an example, if I get a reading of 2.4 then 1.6 of it is feed I added, and I will translate it as roughly 2.0. Some of it does feed the plant and some of it is just junk.
