Whats up with all this soaking in Peroxide?
That's something new to me.
In the olden days the hippies around here soaked the seeds with some acid called oxal in my language.
That was for making them mutate in some way i don't remember, but it could make them better.
Where as Peroxide is more sterilizing the seeds, so i just wonder what the purpose is and if there is any references to what it does?
Is it because you get powdery mildew a lot?
Cut n paste....good info. It's a small preventive step.
Soaking seeds in a diluted hydrogen peroxide (\(H_{2}O_{2}\)) solution before planting accelerates germination, sterilizes the seed coat to prevent fungal disease (like damping-off), and increases oxygen supply, which boosts seedling energy and breaks dormancy

Hey try....

The reason I use hydrogen peroxide is kinda simple....😬

I was over a friend's house and he introduced me to the plant I love in the growth stages...😁

Being a distance away, I'd give um a call and he'd sort me out.....

Out of the 3 main ways to germinate a seed, paper towels, soak, or straight-to-soil, I just prefer......haha....🤣(goin to find it)

The dip....🤣

I swear I was going to mention these facts, but I'm 🚬 a lil....🥹

Thank You gmon!

Yeah i get it. If it works and you're happy then why change.

Thanks gmonster.
I heard that too. But i also don't see the results irl
I also read that post we can't comment on, on this side regarding hydrogen peroxide.
I'd call that post bro science with a lot of claims, or a commercial. Nothing wrong with bro science but making i sound like facts for all people is a stretch imo
It also contradict itself.
To be fair the post makes some warnings of use. And i don't think that post mention using it for seeds.
When i read the post carefully it sounds more like a last resort you should avoid if you can.
And i like that post to be open for comments.

The only recommendation i've seen is 20 min seed soak in 3% by weight solution iirc. Maybe it was 3-5 min?

It's just me and because i never have problems with seeds. And the peroxide kills the good stuff too.
But i see people using peroxide having problems.
Maybe it's a good thing if one grow full synthetic full sterile?

And last thing i find strange.
People try to avoid chlorine but peroxide is even stronger so i totally don't get it. And yeah it accelerate some oxygen production even more than chlorine, but who says that is a good thing? Everything comes with a price.
But as i said, maybe in a synthetic sterile grow?

I'm not trying to argue. Just trying to understand and mix in some logic and always up for a sound debate.

I really don't debate...😬

Thanks.
You don't have too debate. I fully respect that.
Your answer was very helpful.

I'm kinda used to read studies.
I didn't bother to read all but 2 things springs to mind.
The study was made with beans and peas. They are a totally different plant than other plants.
Other thing is the claimed, no conflict of interest.
I disagree because if you look at the grant, then you know there is strains attached.
Actually 3 things.
The control group. They made sure to make it useless.
That's normal in many studies.
Study stops after 72 hours and before the bad effects starts.
Also normal for studies.

So if that's the story, sorry study it all stems from, then i understand the fail rate much better.

I don't even have to waste my friends time on that.

Thank you 👍

Definitely understand....

Certain plants could react differently....

Sorry to hear you have a, if I'm understanding correctly, high fail rate....

I use H2O2 for a few things in the garden. It is a beneficial product to have. From seed to powdery mildew control, and adding O2 to the medium.

Ya went all bro science on me. I get it but before ya go all bro science it's good to take a hard look into the subject in question.

If you've never experienced seed failure then your in for a treat. It's gonna happen if ya soak them or not...eventually. keep crackin..lol

Just for the record. I'd never intentionally post up bro science shit. It's not my style. I have no reason to deceive anyone. But im glad this has stirred your interest. Maybe you'll learn from it.

Yeah you misunderstood. 🤣
I've been known for that...

Curious if you've asked your friend/s about peroxide use?

Coming from a biology standpoint, they've probably got lots of good points and tricks that they share with you...

Sorry you feel it would be a waste to ask them questions about different ways of growing our wonderful plant...

Hope all grows well with you..

Sorry if it came out like that.
I was referring to the post here on the farm that we can't comment on.
Not what you or other said.
And bro science can be good. I use it a lot myself. And in fact nearly all science is bro science anyway.
Even the high school dropout Albert Einstein theory is nothing but a mad mans talk.

And it's not like i havn't failed a seed or a plant in the past. And it will probably happen again.
I'm just curious about why people use it for seeds.
And i think i see some people having problems with their seeds and seedlings.
And it makes me sad to see that.
And yeah, i'm super interested in most things related to nature and most the law of the nature.

But on the other hand. Nobody asked my opinion or help so i just let it rest.
Didn't mean to offend anybody.
And sorry for abusing your tread Bilber.✌️

I didn't have to, after i read the study you linked. Thanks.
I got both of them growing a plant each, so that's a start.

Understood!!

First starting out, I was shown different ways of growing our plant....

Peroxide was one of um and I never looked back....

Almost like using Superthrive...

It's b1 with other stuff in it that helps plants...

The ingredient list does not specify a rooting hormone or anything, but I've always used it for my clones to soak in till they get transplanted....

Does it work you ask?

I've no idea, but I won't not use it, simply because I've always used it and it definitely seems to help.....

Do you use the superthrive to water after putting the clones in their peat homes?
You just made me think about that for a minute cpur....

Sometimes I do, but mostly I'll throw it in the houseplants.....

I can't tell you when I would add it to the potted clone....

It definitely does not hurt your plants!!!

I use 1 drop in a solo, fill that solo all the way with water, then disperse between many solos....

I do know of growers that use it throughout their grows....

I just made a post about this so I'll just add the link.
