I’m new to growing. Just had infection of Fungus Gnat.

Hi I’m new to this site & second attempt at growing for personal use. So disappointed so far. Germinated 11 out of 15 seeds lost one plant & then got attack of fungus gnat. Used Diatomaceous Earth - organic silica-Almost clear of this gnat problem. 6 weeks growth is disappointing. I feel they should be triple the growth. Hoping the yellowing lower leaves could be attributed to the gnat. I do a weekly feed. Use LED lights 12 hours on, temperature around 26c 80f. I’m waiting for delivery of PH device. Any advice gratefully received x 72 yr old grandma

Can you shar a couple pictures, just use the flash on your camera/phone and turn off your grow light.
Can you also tell us what medium you are growing in.....coco, soil, promix....etc

Letting the top of the soil dry will help. That's where the gnat larvae grow. Too much DE will limit the soil's gas exchange.

Yes. They're not growing well. They should be in larger pots by now. It'd be best get them healthy before transplanting, though.

I don't think so. More likely they're not getting enough nutrients. Might be overwatering, as well.

I'd run the light 16 to 18 hours. I use 16, but 18 is common. Are these plants photos or autos?

So glad y’all can help others like this! I’ve a new episode. Been advised, after purchase and now growing plants are going to quite odorous and Bud problematic so now keeping those in 5X10 tent and Scrogging. It’s going to be fun for sure in learning. Hope there’s enough light and I can still pull it all off.
Plants are: Hash Burger (sensitive), Gorilla Glue#4, and Bruce Banner Fast. 8” new exhaust.

Naivety. I thought nature required approximately 12 hours light 12 hours dark. But I’ve reset timer to 16 hours & then discovered today that I must have knocked the on-off switch so the poor plants have had 30 hours of LED light. I can’t see them surviving. Is it too late to sow seeds in mid May. Photos taken over 24 hrs ago & now look worse

This plant is truly amazing. At least it has been in my compost mix. New, I had something like what you described. Just a bit different. Regardless, I have a plant much worse than yours and today, almost a month later, and you’d be hard pressed to be able to tell. Short of it, they will be slowed, if they continue growing, but they might surprise you yet!
Ppl will help you here for sure. And as for gnats, I’ve had them too. Learned about NEAMATODES, mosquito bites and about drying. You’ll have to tread careful I think for awhile.

They clean up a gnat infestation fast leaving no eggs to hatch & reinfect

Most will veg a plant under 18/6 or 24/0 & not put it under 12/12 straight away.
There’s are some that do 12/12 straight away that’s there preference however for a bigger yield most will veg it for about 4 weeks or longer then switch to 12/12.
Edit don’t put her on 18/6 now if you started on 12/12 as it will confuse the plant

Exactly correct! Use sticky pads ridding adults laying eggs too. Did all of that and finally used mosquito bits. Learned so I won’t have to again!

More light (16-18 hours on), bigger pots, less diametacous earth stuff (let the surface of the soil breath), learn how to water, meaning don't over do it.. EASY!
Kudos on the yellow stickys and mosquito bits, they do help.

What lights are you using? And what (strain) are we growing here?

The chicken was delicious. But made me sleepy.

Good tips. A lot of DE can raise pH as well. I would also like to see them transplanted into a light soil with mild nutrients, and scrape the thick layer of DE away. Sprinkled on the surface is enough. Forming a crust causes problems, one of which is blocking oxygen. Regardless of the name she bought the plants needs are the same. I hope she posts the missing details for us to get a better idea of the topics she needs to study up on. Any full yellowed leaves can be removed because they aren't helping the plant in any way.
