Please Help! Finished Harvest and drying but plants still very moist and taste terrible!

Hello everyone. First and foremost thank you to those who are taking the time reading this and offering your input.

I recently harvested 3 plants in a 4 by 4.

When i harvested i tried keeping the plants as intake as possible instead of breaking off into branches.
I had this drying for 16 days in the grow tent with a roughly 62-67 degree and 57-62 humidity while my co2 fan was running in addition to two grow fans blowing up and away from plants the entire time.

I kept attempting the snap test and while the plants bent none snapped clean. i read online (this is my second grow) that if you let plants dry past 14 days you run into risk of mold and bud rot so i harvested all but one plant (got exhausted and figured i'd get to that one today).

I noticed that the nugs are still very moist to the point there they'll stick together.

While they small amazing, when i went to smoke them they tasted horrible and tasteless, nothing like they smelled. I currenly have the 2 plants i chopped and trimmed sitting out on plastic plates to hopefully sweat them but i'm curious if i did something wrong and what i should do from here.


I also used athena nutrients but i used them the last run and the weed definitely tasted how it smelled when i smoked after drying even prior to curing.

I appreciate any and all input.


I also decided to experiment with different nutrients so i'm getting mills nutrients for the next flower. Curious to see if anyone has experience with them. Thanks again for everyones time.

one question did you let your water stand for 24 hrs before use as the chlorophyll can affect flavour

I don’t think there dried properly as the “ that if you let plants dry past 14 days you run into risk of mold and bud rot “ is bro science at best personally I’d call it bs but we use bro science when blogs or such like post misinformation.

You only get mold or bud rot if the humidity is above 69% and you have the room “sealed” with no air flow.

What’s the taste like is it grassy or just not to your liking

Curing will change the taste put them in sealed jars open them often to stop them getting moldy

I’m tired I’ll explain curing in more detail when I get back up if no one else has.

Don’t overcrowd the jars & open them a few times a day till there dryer
Some use I can’t rem the name packs to keep the humidity right when in jars

Personally I don’t because I don’t need them & why buy what you don’t need

Indoors I have always taken most of the main stalk up to the cola. The stalk holds a significant amount of water and could double even triple the dry time an with above 50% humidity, two weeks an still wet is not ideal. Definitely put yer nuggets under a loupe check fer mold. If there is none I would take a screen from a window and cut all buds off as much stalk as you can . I rather be safe than burn mold. I've found the boveda packs come in handy for a strategic task during the cure that's beyond maintaining moisture. One of the things I'm noticing really cleans up the taste for me is if I give it some extra time, keeping it slow over that 2 week mark to drop all the way down to holding about 55% humidity in a tight space, and then reintroducing moisture to an optimum level around 60% in the jar. The trick is drawing out some of that moisture from deep inside the bud that usually gives you your spikes later in the jar. Since I started doing that the taste has cleaned up quite a bit and held onto a surprising amount of smell.

Ya ya that's it, I have 1gal jars and live 5280 miles above sea level doesn't rain much in the desert haha but I have heard good things about the 62% packs

The smell of the weed is the piney note of og kush (khalifa kush strain) that reminds me of an 2009 sour diesel but the weed just taste like mid tasting weed if that makes sense.

I asked if it tasted grassy or just not to your liking as i was trying to figure if you harvested early.

Sounds like you got good advice with the boveda packs

If you don’t have packs make sure you open the jars frequently & movie the bud around till there dryer esp as you seemed to have cut them into buds a bit earlier than they could of done with.

You don’t want them to go moldy because you didn’t air the jars

Curing weed is what you’re really supposed to do when you harvest. The taste changes drastically after 3mths.

On the chlorophyll thing letting the water stand for 24hrs before use lets the chlorophyll gas off

A cure might fix it.

IMHO one of the worser things you can do is try and use those the bovedas to manage the inner moisture draw. It cleans up better if you just burp that moisture out and save the bovedas for keeping you in range. But you can throw a dried out boveda in and it will dessicate for sure.

I always worry they would burst plus i hang ups about them being a real hardcore organic guy
Yeah they might be organic but I just dont like the idea of them or anything else being in contact with my weed other than a lighter

That’s not to say they are no good
I’ve only heard good things about them

I use the 1 gallon Boveda 62% packs in a quart jar to stabilize and give flavor back to abused dispensary pot.
It works.
I have also had no problems with long dries causing problems. One 3 plant group went 14 days until the longer runs were dried enough to trim properly. 63-67 degrees and 62% humidity.
I do use cube hygrometers to monitor cure when I try something new. After it works I just keep the bags fresh and the jars dark and tight.

I have left my weed out for 2 days and it has dried a bit and now i'm starting to taste the notes i'm smelling. i was worried i was going to be sitting with a flavorless harvest and trash it, i'm very relieved. i'm going to try Mills nutrients for the next run

One gallon jars. My uncle uses those packs tobacco. He is one of those old guys that grows his own supply.

I use I think it's a half gallon size for curing, it's the biggest standard size normally found at store shelves carrying masons. Then the quart size for long term, wide mouth for both. The big jar gets filled 2/3 so there's headroom for burping and breathing.

The "organic" aspect of bovedas... I forget which 2 ingredients there are but ones a gel and ones pellets and they either draw moisture ore release it from the environment in an attempt to equalize with the packet contents. If a packet pops it would probably be a mess and you'd have to toss some bud but if you're handling and storing weed in completely normal ways, you're not even going to get a stem puncture. There's a membrane around it that only allows h2o moisture to pass through. If someone is into organics I can see how they could be worried, but a basic understanding of molecular chemistry assures us we're safe using them.

You can pluck a fan off a plant that's currently growing and throw it in the jar for a couple hours and it'll draw moisture from the leaf. But don't leave it, and use a hygrometer so you can watch your numbers.

I've been growing a long time and drying has always been the weakest part of my grow. I over dry at 68-9F at about 60% for 10 - 12 days and then re-hydrating in grove bags worked the best with 62% packs. I'll put 2 of the #67 in a 1/4 lb bag.

I've never had one bust and I've been pretty rough with them. I'd never considered it, I will now but I have some pretty beat up packs.

At $7.50 Cdn each+ $4.50 Grove bags they are not all that cheap. Re usable for a while but they get ugly after a few grows.

Its not the best solution but safest way to assure no mold, Recently ordered a Vcure, I hope that solves my drying problems

The humidity should rise after they been in the jars for a bit as long as there sealed
You still may have to burp the jars depending on how dry they are.

I wouldn’t think your jars would be to dry the bud I imagine will still contain moisture. above is your best option if they are.
