Hello! I’m 21 days into my Mimosa Evo cure and I’m starting to get a little concerned. The grow went great , plants looked and smelled amazing. Chopped at day 64 with a 25% to 30% amber trich ratio. The drying process went as such: 65-67 degrees w/ 52-57% humidity. I dried them as whole plants for 7 days in a climate controlled room in complete darkness (dehumidifier and window AC unit). After the 7 days i put the buds in totes (75% filled) for 72 hours. At that point I pulled a decent size bud off and put it in a small jar (with hygrometer) for 18 hours. After the 18 hours was up the jar was showing 61% humidity. I then proceeded to dry trim and put everything in lightproof jars. For the past 3 weeks the humidity and temp has been on point , all jars were within 60-63% humidity with an average temp of 64 degrees. Now here’s where my problem lies. I tried a small sample of the flavor and the flavor was pretty much nonexistent, which I thought was odd since the buds smell amazing when broken apart. Am I screwed? Will I get any flavor back in the next 10 days of curing? I was really hoping for a nice aromatic hit , but all I got was that dispensary weed taste. I’m just wondering where I might of gone wrong. Is there still hope for a flavorful , aromatic product.

give it at least a month cure,. though you should be tasting something if you smoked some,.
could be a few reasons,. bit doesn’t sound like you did something wrong,. could just be the genetics,.
what did you grow?

what did you grow

I agree with the above post. You want something better than dispo weed, but grew the same commercially bred generic genetics they do. Your weed will not be overhandled like dispo weed though. Dm open to you to talk flavorful weed options and recommendations that will not disappoint you.

Outside the genetics I see a couple other things that could be adding to the disappointment. You said the grow smelled great. That smell was the terpenes evaporating off the the plant and leaving out into the air for you to smell and enjoy. In warm conditions this happens more and can reduce terpene content/end flavor. That is why cooler temperatures are useful for the flowering stage. So if the air temperature was warm, flavor was getting lost. If. If you had temps in the 60s to ~ 72... not a lot would be lost.

Next is drying process. You say 52-57% rH. 52% in my opinion is too dry some flavor would be lost. That will also dry off those terpenes. 57% seems good, I would try to keep it between 57-60% myself. 7 days passed, but seems a good job here.

Then you put it in totes 72 hours. Then jar 18 hours, at 61% rh and the trim. Good. Then 3 weeks in jars 60-63%. Over 60 and risk of mold/bud rot... but you didnt notice any brown dead spots or anything in your report.

That is enough time for sugars and starches to break down and have nice cured bud. Should be softish sticky bud, not dry crumbly. It seems like you did everything well.

I can only imagine if temperature in flowering was very warm that terpenes evaporated off, or if your 7 days drying had regular good airflow, maybe too aggressive wind going over the bud in ~54% relative humidity.... and overdried it. The initial drying is hard to describe when it needs to moved to jars/containers. Stems make a snap, but not like bone dry loud snap, just a little crunchy sound. If none of this seems to be it. It's the genetics thst just didn't have the flavor in it. Makes me wonder if it was normal photo period plants or autoflowering hemp hybrids you are talking about.

It seems like you did your part well. The only big question mark for me is the initial 7 day drying. Its possible to lose too much there... but humidity your numbers seem ok for whole plants in 7 days.

...it just doesn't seem to be your fault. That disappointment sucks. If you want to try again, I would highly recommend not getting your seeds/clones whatever from that seller. We can talk about flavor/effect options and I can tell you sure shots that would be worth your time and resources. I've screwed up on overdrying before and lost valuable flavor. Ended up using it for edibles! Enjoyed it that way too!
I’m beginning to think it could’ve been an airflow issue during the dry. I had a fairly large fan in the drying room facing a wall , but it was blowing around a decent amount of air. That little voice inside was telling me it was too much, but I figured the fan wasn’t blowing directly on the plant so I’d be good , clearly that wasn’t the case. The buds were pretty crispy after the 7 day dry, the smell coming off the plant was muted as well. I’m going to ride this cure out another week and post an update. I harvested 3 Mimosa Evo plants and 1 Barney’s Farm LSD. However , the Mimosa Evo seeds were not purchased from the Barney’s site , I got those from Seed Connect. For my next run later in the year, i purchased some Grandaddy Purple and OG Kush seeds Royal Queen. For a first grow I think it went well , but clearly there’s some things I need to tighten up for the second go around. I always appreciate feedback from the community!

Don't feel too bad you harvested and did everything but listen to your gut LOL i know that one well live and learn. I woke myself during the night remembering i left the lids off my jars and did'nt get up to fix it just went back to sleep. Yes they were pretty dry but the tiny stems still are abit green so i don't think i messed up the cure. My area is really dry indoors and my hanging branches do not take more than 4 days to dry enough to clip the buds off. My plants are smaller indica strains not big colas.

I’ll give another week and hope some kind of flavor starts emerging. The buds are beautiful , trichomes everywhere , consistency of a Lucky Charm marshmallow, it would be a shame if they lacked the proper aromatics. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, I’d it doesn’t work out , lesson learned , on to the next. 😉
