I’ll bet he was! I’ve seen a lot of bears and even killed a few, but the only cinnamon I ever saw ran across the dirt road when I was driving at night out in the middle of nowhere of southern Oregon! You won’t see many! The pot garden up there was 17 miles from any vestige of civilization! I’ll try and get a better picture of him and post it later!👍
Yep that's my old neighborhood. Had a black bear walk down through our camp into the Rogue River and watched it swat a salmon out of the river. We were anchored in our drift boat in the river and watched from there LOL. Man it's hot up there now, too hot for this old bird to drift down it.

I figured it was! There is a 30 mile dirt road that goes from Cave Junction, Oregon to Smith River California! I think it’s called low divide Road on the Smith Riverside! We were halfway out it and then five or so miles down to the North Fork of the Smith! They used to have old chromium mines out there! Pretty wild country!😍 Right on the border of the kalmiopsis wilderness area!

Been years, but I loved fishing the Smith River. About the only river in Ca where the watershed has never been logged! I’ve seen that river rise 16 feet, then be fishable in 4-5 days! The Klamath, Trinity, Eel, and Mad all take 2-3 weeks to get near fishable after they blow out.

It’s a jewel! I think it has produced the state record king and possibly steelhead! If I remember right, the king was 70 pounds! And you’re right it becomes fishable way faster than the others! Checked out, Jedidiah Smith State Park many moons ago in the summer! Impressive trees, but the water was low and there was no fishing! But if you get up towards the headwaters of the North Fork up in Oregon, the fishing is great for rainbows and browns! Hardly anybody fishes it! Some remote shit! Lol! Spent five or six months around 1980 growing dope in the hills up above the confluence of the North Fork Smith and baldface Creek! Living in a tent with the bears! Lol! But it is a truly magical place! Bald face Creek was a designated reference stream! Water so pure that other streams purity is judged in relationship to it!

I got up there in the spring when some kind of flower was blooming! Maybe Rododendron? But the whole place smelled like perfume! Grows wild in the back country up there!

That is some remote country. The steelhead on the Smith are definitely the biggest. 20lbers are common. The next biggest fish, strangely enough, are in the Mad River.

Lots rhododendrons, there’s also wild azaleas, not as showy as the nursery types, but they have a wonderful scent, which they’ve bred out of the store bought ones!

20 pounders..!!! Best I've ever taken from the rivers feeding the north coast up here, is 12 lbs. On a 11 foot, 7wt flyrod. We were both wore out from the fight.😆
