Hi,
I have running a 6" vortex to my light, i want to add a carbon filter. What would be the best filter to get? I want to do Filter<hood<fan<exhaust. Will i need to have a fan blow cool air in or can i just use the neg pressure and have it pull air from a vent? Right now i have hood<fan<exhaust with two open vents. Thanks.

The specific filter depends on how much smell you need to get rid of. I've rocked can-filters in the past with fine success, but may check out MountainAir since it seems easier to replace the carbon. I'd recommend at least 30lbs of carbon, just depends on your application, but the more the merrier. It's also my understanding that it's more effective to pull air straight from the carbon filter, thus: filter > fan > hood > exhaust hole. I'd place your carbon filter up high so it's sucking the hottest air (still haven't found the best way to do this--without drilling into studs--myself).

So I need a filter that handles fan cfms. Then that air coming out of fan can cool light.

what about phresh filters? they any good? My tent is a 5x5x6 dr150, and i have a vortex 6" fan. Just trying to look at all my options.

Yup!

I've never used a Phresh personally, but would really recommend a MountainAir, for if it's really as easy to change the carbon as it seems, it would theoretically never need to be replaced. Search around the farm for some reviews though, there are tons.

Yo I run all vortex 8" fans with phresh can filters and it does a super job. I run some smelly bitches and have a few (many) patches in the same area. All my room butt up to one another so the smell was getting quite strong. Could smell it down the street and when u were on my property it smelled like you were in the room. Now after switching to phresh filters I can't smell shit bro. Plus they say your good for like 2 years without changing the carbon. It was 190 or something like that for my 8 and the 6 that my boy bought at the same time was only like 20 bucks cheaper. If your running all 6 inch components then get the 8 and go to home depot and get a 8 to 6 converter(8 bucks) you will def be satisfied, I know I certainly am.~SMF~

I bought a 4" carbon filter from my local hydro shop for $70 bucks and use a 4" to 6" transition since my hood also has 6" vents. I use a 180 cfm fan too to suck air out of my little closet. BTW this little can filter weighs like 10 lbs.
