Hey all...hates the deal:

I started my seeds on the 20th of October, all 10 germnated and had taproot showing...I put into Rockwool like substance...watered daily, only letting dry out once slightly (didn't water for an extra 12 hours...) I now only have one seedlings showing threw and all others are no where to be seen....

They are under a 125w cfl, in a tray with a seed mat underneath and a small 6" amount fan going...temp is 78 day and 68 @ night w/ 45-55% humidity...

Did I kill them? Something not right in the room? Does it take them a while to sprout? I'm a scared 1st timer...Help!

how deep did you bury them?

temps and humidity are fine

did you try and dig around a bit in the medium and see what gives?

It sounds like they have dried out my friend, once the taproot is showing it's important to keep them moist for the continued development of the seedling, plant some more seeds, if that's an option.

btw: I've had great percentages geminating in rockwool, it is a great medium for holding moisture.
Ciao

I'm going to respectfully disagree and say that (hard to tell without pics or anything) you overwatered them and they got murdered that way.

You don't need to water fresh cracked seedlings anywhere near every day.

Do you have any experience with rockwool? Can you tell the difference between damp rockwool and saturated rockwool? If so, you want "damp".

Just my conclusion from the facts given.

did you PH the rockwool before putting them in? That's how i lost a whole bunch a few years ago. Did I mention I don't use rockwool for just that reason?

I'm sure he will find out once he cracks the medium and checks the seedlings, either be mushy or dry, I've been there, trials and errors, good luck my friend.

if it makes you feel any better, i just lost a batch of ata tundra & blue widow after the fine mist from ortho's eco sense bug spray was blown on the seedlings by my floor fans.

anything remotely touched by the insect spray has a stem so soft the plant cant do its upright thing.

the only survivor is a lone widow.

Sorry @ work...can take pics when I get home. I explored 3 days ago, and a few looked dead, but a few still have the taproot showing.

I buried them too deep @ 1st, then replanted 3 rays later, shallower (aprox 1/4")

I'm assuming I screwed this one up...fml time to order more seeds.

Hmm, sounds like things dried out a bit too much at once.

You need to watch these sorts of grows a bit more closely than you might with others.

I don't think you screwed up. I think you had a misstep, but things can get back on track.

Rockwool should be ph'd... soaked over night. Then flick the water out with a snap of your wrist. That much water should last a week at least. You need almost no light. Temps around 70. I am sure you drown them.

No wonder your stuff died, that dirt mix is the worst i ever saw.
you probably need lime or something to make that dirt and wood non acidic.
