michigan purps story

for those of you whove smoked the michigan purps from the mid 90's on... it started from a bag seed of green spirit from a dead show... so many crews got thier hands on it, and everyone doubts the other guy when they say they got the purp, until you smoke it and it has that classic distinct taste, everyone agrees "thats it"... well, i had an original cut back in the day... lost it, as well as the originators too, but somehow have managed to get it back. im not toatally convinced its the same cut, but its very close. i often wonder if its our michigan cut that made it to cali, and eventually to the world, cuz before we had it nobody had it and it was long thought before this that purple bud was from the environment conditions and not genetic, well we know better.

why do so many talked about strains come from bag seed obtained at a show? i need to start going to damn concerts lol.

i've heard of this purp being a Michigander but i dont know anything about it have never seen it or tried it.

yuuuup.....i sourced my cut from a former "DP" member and my boys older brother was the starter of that cut. worked that one for a while and gave it to my boy that still runs it. i felt as it was a bad luck stain since everyone that originally started her is caught up now or in jail. here is a few pics from a few years back of my last run with her in week 5. she could get chopped at 8 weeks and killed at 9. made everyone quite sleepy yet had thinner leafs like a sativa. no idea what the strain really was but we always called it the purple or the 62.50z because it used to go for 500 a zip since it was the first colored but in our scene. flavor was of candy grapes and just exotic. excuse the crap pic, it was before i learned to use a camera lol ~SMF~

In Michigan,ohio and PA there seems to be a select few baby boomer breeders that have their hands on the original gdp that is only common to the midwest....ona my all time favourite smokes, gives me a nice mix body head with the extra funkadelickness kick to it. Take it easy all, looks like some funk skunk-master haha but not gdp?

I read this thread last week so it has been fresh in my mind the last few days. I needed meds last night and along with a fellow patient, hit up Peoples Choice disp on Main in A2 across from UM Stadium.

I had heard others in the past referencing a super purple, little bud sativa that Harry (owner of Peoples Choice) has been working on/with for some time. Apparently it went without a name for a while until "Gracie Slick" was given.

Based on the other posts in this thread, could this be the Mi Purps?

Who knows purple weed is to hard to visually tell to be honest... For instance I could say that looks like Double Purple Doja...... Its get a lot easier when u list smells and taste. :)

agreed! those nuggies look real similar to your dpd i saw. purple all looks similar until you smoke it. nice looking nugz though for sure! ~SMF~

Last year I picked up someof Subcools Qleaner(hence my screen name!) and it was some fantastic smoke.The Grape pheno purped up nicely!I would recommend picking some up.All three phenos were nice, but the grspe and lemon were the best.
Im looking for some nice cuttings of a strain that exibits lots of purple.I am a valid patient in Michigan so anyone with "overages" of purp clones please contact me. [email protected]

hey my dude...try to be a lil more DL about asking for cuts....people tend to get banded from here from time to time over that...just letting you know so you dont get the kick, not my rules just making sure you stay around lol...
check out C4 in AA, they have clones available to med patients/caregivers there and other than at place i dont know anywhere that has cuts of what they say they should be...~SMF~

this is an old thread, but i thought i would give the real story on the Mich purps. It was obtained by my best friend and my whole crew. We met some ohio kids at a Ekoostic Hookah outdooor festival (Hookahville) in ohio. The ohio kids were puffing this really dank ass lime green strain that they said was Green spirit. My buddy then asked them for a cutting and the one dude actually said ok.....then left the show to get it!!!!!!! Crazy!!! he came back with ONE seed!!! then we partied at the show all weekend and it poured rain, we barely got out of the mud at the end because we were in my RV and it kept getting stuck. So anyhow my friend put the ONE seed in a small baggie, spit in the bag and kinda forgot about it. We did manage to take it out of the RV and then left it at his house. About a week later we were hanging out at his pad puffin' some Big Boss(hehe) and my hand felt the baggie between the couch cushions. The seed had sprouted and he planted it.....this is what turned out to be the PURPS!!!! Believe me. we blew it up and other close friends got it and gave it to other people. It is or was legendary. When grown properly it was one of the best strains i have ever had. My friend and i both moved to cali but did not bring it (long story) The reason i would love to have it again is because it rocks and it has sentimental value....my friend who's actual spit started that strain passed away in 2001. I would love to talk about it if anyones still out there....PEACE!!!

skull n roses....wicked story man. the crew that started that cut blew it out for years. when i was growing up it was known as the 62.50z.....cuz thats what bags were going for. most of the guys in that circle came from DP (abbreviation for the nickname of the subdivision dog patch). i got it from them after years of buying bags and helping one of them out in there garden. all these guys were real cool dudes except the guy who put up all the money for all the houses the purps was getting grown in. to make a long story shorter they all got busted and some are looking at life. i really wonder if its the same cut as your referring to. would love to know what county yall started it in to see if we can compare stories. ~SMF~

I'm not sure how old you are, i am 37 and i can promise you that me and my friend started that cut from ONE seed from the kids in Ohio like I said in my post. The purps was offically being grown by is in actual rooms starting in 1996. The person who got in trouble with the houses was my good friend and he was a high school friend of my buddy who passed away, who was the person to grow the very first bean out. the guy with the houses and trouble did not get the cut for about 2 years after me and my friend had it even though we were good friends. My buddy was real tight with it in the beginning!!!! Lol! The purps was started in Oakland county. I have not talked to my friend who got popped since 2001, so i am way out of the Mich loop but i do know the story.The picture that you have i am 95% sure is the purps. as someone said earlier they thought that this cut started GDP and other purple strains.....it didnt! we only had it out west for a year and lost it, we never gave it out and my buddy died in 2001. The reason I think you have it is because of the skinny leaves. I have tried a lot of the Cali purp strains and they all have fat indica leaves. The only other possibility is the ohio kids who gave us a bean have the same pheno...who knows. I grew it for about 5 years and can remember that artificial grape candy flavor. I know that after my old friend who got busted it spread to A LOT of people that had nothing to do with our original crew. thats what is so crazy...this one plant comes from one seed when no one had a purple strain and was started from my best friends spit!!!!! who would of thought!!!! I just recently have talked to an old friend in Mich who is suppose to be getting it back for me. It really has sentimental value and it would bring back a lot of good memories!!! Also back then me and that whole original crew all grew it in hydro slabs and aeroponics. I would love to see how the purple performs in my current methods....coco, lucas formula, newer additives, 8k, etc.... Anyways its cool to talk about it, i hope your still rocking it! I'd love to see some more pic if u have them! PEACE
