NHP Uses Drug Machine to Test Suspected Users

Posted: 11:20 am PST December 14, 2010Updated: 4:53 pm PST December 14, 2010
Just released, The Nevada Highway Patrol currently has ten Dräger 5000 Drug Test machines in service throughout the Northern Command region.

If a trooper suspects drug use at anytime, he or she can confirm those suspicions with this drug testing machine. A sample swab is taken from the mouth of the subject and then analyzed by the machine.

The Dräger Drug Test 5000 system comprises two main components: The Dräger Drug Test Kit and the Dräger Drug Test 5000 Analyser. This drug testing equipment provides precise diagnostic evaluation and data management, and a fast and accurate means of testing oral fluid samples for drugs of abuse, such as:

• Amphetamines • Designer amphetamines • Opiates • Cocaine and metabolites • Benzodiazepines and cannabinoids

drager Cut-off levels (concentration limits)
Amphetamine: 50 ng/ml
Methamphetamine: 35 ng/ml
Cocaine: 20 ng/ml
Opiates: 20 ng/ml
Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol: 5 ng/ml
Benzodiazepine: 15 ng/ml
Q: How long after consumption can drugs be detected with the DrugTest 5000?
A: Amphetamines/ Methamphetamines up to 50 hours
Cocaine 12 – 36 hours
Opiates up to 24 hours
THC up to 8 hours

everyone just needs to deny it till the end then the machine will be useless.

I can just imagine the number of false positives it will be giving out along with fucking up peoples lives. This shit is crazy.

OK so this may show that someone has done these drugs in the past, but where is the scientifically backed data showing what current levels would be needed before someone is likely to be unable to drive? Also, what would give an officer probable cause to administer one of these tests? And if his probable cause leads him to believe someone has been abusing painkillers, are they allowing a broader spectrum of testing to include all substances? Ohterwise, that would be an illegal search wouldn't it?

LMAO at "A sample swab is taken from the mouth of the subject"
So they consider this non-invasive? Putting a foreign object in a person's mouth while conducting a simple traffic stop?
WTF there was no mention of arrest just suspicion of doing drugs and now every douche cop will be going swab happy in Nevada? The Drager 5000 LOL what a fkn joke! -Keepz

american's only have the "rights" they purchase in attorney fees!

Ah, indeed, I agree with you in a large way, spiderman. Justice only for the rich, is where we're at, in essence. Only those who can afford to defend themselves, or levy a suit when wronged and no other mechanism for redress is allowed, can be assured of not suffering a poor defense.

Not exactly one of the precepts we were founded upon, was it?

Wonder if they keep the swab as evidence and for DNA collection? Seriously don't put anything past these guys.

Ok, so if i smoke 2 or 3 time a week how much time after last smoke i stil positive
