Plants are designed to use LIGHT, they have adapted to use certain spectrums more efficiently based on where they grow. We are being sold a bag of goods when it comes to certain ideas of what is the best light and what lights don't cause problems. Why because most people are ignorant to the true science of how plants use the light....

Green light will and does in fact grow plants. Look at the studies that pretty much all the Photosynthisis curves are based on. Please show me where there are any zeros in the curve... In other words if green light were not beneficial why does the plant still use CO2 when only given green light? I am not saying if you absolutely need to go to work on your plants not to use a green light... But me.... I live by the zero light policy.

We take nature in our own hands some times.... For one most plants are not native to the area they are grown in... Most plants are not started naturally and are babied until strong enough to survive... Most plants are tricked into producing what we want them to produce.... When we let them grow in Nature we find out many things and sometimes we find out we need to change some things.

they dont thats not right the dont use co2 in green light and if you beleive that then by all means do a complete grow under green light and il follow your grow diary. and no on said they dont use green light. read the thread no one has said that.

So seamaiden, whatcha think of those green lights they sell in sunlight supply type mags, (supposedly safe to use in the dark?) maybe not so safe?
Having never used them (thought I think I do have a couple of green CFLs stashed somewhere), and not knowing well enough the science behind using just green light, I can't say and won't try. I can only say the maddening thing--that I've read of a guy who said that he uses them, blahblahblah.

Having never used them (thought I think I do have a couple of green CFLs stashed somewhere), and not knowing well enough the science behind using just green light, I can't say and won't try. I can only say the maddening thing--that I've read of a guy who said that he uses them, blahblahblah.

theres a few people who have tryed to use them on there own if you search. but they said the plants stayed yellow, and i dont think they survived.

plants need a certain intensity to provide a hormonal change and years ago i read that was somewhere around 3-5 ft candles per sq meter
basically enough light to read a paper versus just seeing the paper
your mileage may vary though as i have never tested this myself
i suppose a typical full moon wont meet the intensity requirement to cause that hormonal change

regarding the green light issue
the argument is that the plant reflects the color it does not use but there is a metric butt load of research out there that states otherwise
besides, green is a very wide spectrum in itself so what specific shade of green is not used?

yup depends on the colour of the leaves to a point aswell i guess. i mean some leaves are almost purple on some strains so they may not even reflect that much green light. idk..

Dude, WG re-stated something I'd said previously in this thread (perhaps I didn't state it well enough). At the very least, re-READ THE ABSTRACTS! One of them talks about that and how green light penetrates leaves to different depths. If I recall (I'm not going back to read it again) it also talks about differences in CO2 uptake (which equates to sugar making) when different wavelengths/colors (spectra) are used, and GREEN light causes CO2 uptake, just not as much as other wavelengths.

No, not using green lights to grow the plants, using green lights as a type of "night light" so as to avoid interrupting the dark cycle, but still be able to get work done on and around the girls.

0.27 lux Full moon on a clear night
1 lux Full moon overhead at tropical latitudes
3.4 lux Dark limit of civil twilight under a clear sky
50 lux Family living room

An incandecent bulb produces ~15 lumens per watt. One lumen per square meter is one lux. Therefore in a one meter cab 1/15th of a watt of incandescent would give about the same as a tropical full moon directly overhead.

I know Seamaiden is not wrong on this one. I always hate to sound like I am talking out my ass but I cannot find the damn paper I have that talks about this.

Though green light does not play a major role directly in photosynthesis, it does contribute to it in a way, and it does have an important role in regulating plant growth and development. If I remember right there is a specific chemical compound in plants that is stimulated by green light....
