First Time Grower Querkle

Day 49. 7 weeks in today I think things are starting to look pretty good. The girls are getting water only at this point. On Thursday they did get a pinch of Epsom salt and a splash of Molasses in the water. Calyx's have begun to swell in two of the plants the tips of the false seed pods are turning purple. You can start to see that in the individual bud pictures. You can see the hairs have begun to turn orange or reddish all over. About 15-20% of the hairs have changed color more in some buds but overall it looks like not more than 20%. I only wish I had more of these colas. Well next round for sure will have a much better veg time on them. Comments Questions and suggestions are always welcome. On to the part you all stopped in for.

Thanks Brother. Glad you stopped by my little grow. I took some sample buds down last night one nice secondary branch off each plant. I wanted to have a day 54-55 reference to figure out at what point I want to harvest my flowers for future grows. They are hanging to dry now so there could be a taste test in a few days.

Looks like you have a long way to go yet. Don't forget these girls had ideal conditions at key times for as long as I could possibly keep them right. Growing in a small cab like you do that can change really fast it will be much harder to keep them ideal all the time.

after nearly an hour of hunting I found a grand total of 9 amber tricones however I noticed about 1 out of 5 even though they are clear are leaning over like the pictures of a past peak tricone I have seen. Is it time?:sweating

Hey Dr. D, I believe for maximum maturity 80% of the resin glands need to be amber...you can check what Pure Analytic Labs here in Cali had to say about my sample of PJ Purple Myst from last year...



eta: we did a staggered harvest of the PJ Purple Myst last year...don't know the exact days...but the sample I had checked went the longest and had the best medicinal properties.

Thanks for the awesome info brother. Those PJ's look like they turned out pretty well. I think I am looking to harvest a touch on the early side I would like to keep my CBD's a bit lower. From what I understand they continue to mature once harvested for many more days some say even into curing. Querkle is supposed to be a really heavy couch locky high when allowed to make it to full peak. I would like to curtail this a little bit. In addition I have done some strain research which leads me to understand Querkle may not change color always to the more amber coloring in a tricone. I am looking for more amber than I have but I have read from a few growers who wait as long as 10-11 weeks with this strain and still only see less than 10% amber coloring. the tricones I have do have a slightly lavender cast to them which Subcool states can be another indicator for this strain. I figure by the time the test buds are ready for smoking I should be at a better place to make my choice. ( I have a small self harvester I might smoke test today even) I am hoping to keep them a little on the High soaring side. Am I even thinking along the right line now?

No, I like to look at the plants overall health and well being as well as tric production to determin harvesting time. I like my trics to be elongated with a full mushroom shaped head. the tric should be transluscent, but amberish. I normally want about 60 to 80 percent of the trics to be this amberish color, Not like dirty brown and foggy, but transluscently amberish. Some trics will be so big they may fall over especially with a warmer enviroment, but that is somewhat normal. they shouldnt be broken though. And as far as the plants overall look, well she should be looking weary in her old age. the leaves should be eaten up, the fans especially, but there should be only dark green on the buds. U want the plant to consume as much of the energy stored within itself before harvest, this i find is what makes ur plant get that Dank taste, not planty tastey. She should also be bending under the weight of the colas at this point. Now once the plant stops growing bud mass and tric production has slowed and the trics have matured. do u harvest.

Now the best way to find peak maturity for sure, is to take test cuttings at different times, dry those samples and consume the medication to determin potency. Only bad thing bout this method is u have to wait till next season to apply ur knowledge. lol.

Hi Bro thanks for the feedback as always. I will start showing what I see in macro detail as my answer to this. I dont see any real amber coloring but I do see swollen and cloudy or slightly tinted tricones everywhere. I think they still have a bit of time but not long now.

One last thing I have almost forgotten my update for the week. Here we are at day 56. I have said a ton already today in my posts. I will like to add I hope next time I grow this strain I will get some good tricone production and hopefully some neat coloring in my buds. Those Feckin Irish are some crazy Mo-Fo's I tell ya . Especially the Skydiving ones , I'm almost certain they don't Drinks Much as they most certainly Spills Most-O-It . Wow Donny that is really generous of you brother. I was worried about that part big time. I wonder how I can get the ones that turn out with the 24% thc.

There is a rumor they might have been test smoked today on a 30 hour dried bud.... a little birdy tells me they tasted so harsh you couldn't discern any taste but the high was very creeper and head heavy but quite active.

Those are some great photos Dr. Dankz...a slow cure does wonders for taste and aroma. The resin glands look like their about 20-30% amber/opaque.eta: and maybe more after looking again...are you flushing her yet?...it looks to me, and I'm still learning myself, like you could harvest anytime depending on what you're looking for in medicinal properties.

That's the rub...you won't know until it's done...but those flowers do your screen name justice...for sure you won't be disappointed...thanks for the pics...I really enjoyed them...I would get in touch with Grow Goddess...sounds like she's got some info you could use on that strain.

Nice grow there Dankz. I'd agree with Xrancher on that one. She looks ready by the pics u've posted, but like he said it just depends on the type of medicinal properties u want the medication to have, If u want some stronger nighttime meds let it go longer, if u want more daytime uppity stuff then harvest them sooner than later.
