I'm finding this winged insect all over, does not seem to be hurting anything. Can't seem to identify it. Here is a photo:

Thanks. I don't see them in the soil. There are a billion bugs out there, so I found it hard to find via searching. Closest I could find was the fungus gnat, but those live in soil.

Hang sticky traps and keep room at 74-78 deg. Before my room was at 80-82 and I think they were thriving. Since the temp drop Ive noticed a rapid decrease in numbers. I also will drench the soil from time to time with Azatrol. I might see a total of 100 little bastards in my 10lighter now. A far cry from the multiple thousnds it seemed I had before the change.

Looks like a fungus gnat, but its VERY hard to see in that picture because of what its sitting on. Are the wings shiny with rainbow like colors reflecting in them? And is there just one set of wings?

Wings do NOT have a rainbow sheen. I just went back and disturbed the top soil and saw no bugs. Hmmmm. I'll try and take a better photo.

yeah i ditched roots because i got Root aphids once, convinced it was from them!! use a lil torro on a paper plate, that should do the trick. i was freaked when i saw them in my house , i thought it was termites!! arhhh, then a local gardener told me that when i got them, it was time for them to be out and about.(last year, this time)

Thanks a ton for all the info. I'm glad they are harmless.

better safe than sorry. I suggest you get rid of em, even if harmless other smaller pests could hitch a ride.
Ants have a symbiotic relationship with Aphids so better off/safer to kill em AND not assume they are harmless.
